Three Little Pigs 'too Offensive'

Wed Jan 23, 2008 5:13 pm

Quote:

A story based on the Three Little Pigs has been turned down from a government agency's annual awards because the subject matter could offend Muslims.

The digital book, re-telling the classic fairy tale, was rejected by judges who warned that "the use of pigs raises cultural issues".

Becta, the government's educational technology agency, is a leading partner in the annual schools award.

The judges also attacked Three Little Cowboy Builders for offending builders.

It's amazing the things people are offended by.

I truly feel sorry for people that get offended by every little thing. They must lead sad, sad lives.  no

In all seriousness, this is just more PC bullshit. It's an adaptation of a nursery rhyme. Are we now not to allow kids to sing "Baa Baa Black Sheep" lest it cause black people to get their panties in a knot over it. Are we now not to allow kids to sing "Humpty Dumpty", lest fat people take offense over it. Shit, if that's how things are, then we should ban all version of "White Cliffs of Dover" from ever being played, sung, or listened too, because I'm white and I don't like being compared to a rock formation...or a bad 80's pop star named Cliff.

Ridiculous.

It's ironic that the group that has deemed that it is "offensive" is not a Muslim group; it's a committee of government judges. Most Muslims I know wouldn't even have thought of it in that way!

If Muslims were offended by the story of the Three Little Pigs (I'm sure 99.99% of them never even thought about it before now), goodness only knows how they must feel when they walk past the bacon counter in any UK supermarket.

Thinking about it, I've never know any of our legendary "Asian run corner shops" that don't sell bacon.

Let me guess: this decision was taken, not at the request of offended Muslims, but because some psychic PC-coppers thought they could once again decide what Muslims will be offended by.

How close am I?

Seems that they still didn't get the message after the Muslim leaders' reaction to the banning of nativity scenes a few months ago (where they basically said 'Stop deciding for us what we should be offended by').

Crap like this has the exact opposite effect of what it's supposed to have: in stead of 'removing boundaries' between groups of the population, it'll increase anti-Muslim sentiment once again.

So now it is not only pork but all references of pigs, alive and dead? Will Porky Pig get banned from TV as well? Will Kermit the Frog no longer be allowed to raise a love-child with Miss Piggy?

And thats what causes most of the problems. The Muslims/blacks etc get offended because some government think tank have decided that they "might" be offended by something, so the government impose a ban/restriction etc, then this gets reported in the press and then other groups get p'd off and assume it was because of the muslims/blacks that said thing was banned when in actual fact it wasn't, so it just goes round and round breeding hatred between the various ethnic groups.

This political correctness bolleaux need to be scrapped ASAP.

If it wasn't so pathetic, it would be funny. The irony is, having worked in Dubai for nine months, it's possible to walk in to many a supermarket there and shop in the discreet "Non-Muslim section" and find every pork product known to mankind.  Wow!

Even funnier than the minuscule chance of the story offending Muslims, is the bone-headed suggestion that builders might be offended by the book - that would imply they could read! duck

It would probably become like buying porn - go into a sectioned off, darkened aisle, getting disgusted looks from hippies and PC do-gooders, just so you can have a bacon sandwich. You would then have to leave looking like you went into the aisle by pure coincidence.

Sort of "top-shelf" bacon?  rotfl

Presumably, it would only be able to be purchased by shifty-looking types wearing raincoats, and would have to be taken to the check-out hidden in a folded-up copy of The Sun. At which point, the 15-year old checkout girl will have to get the supervisor's OK to sell it, by waving a pack of streaky in the air, while the rest of the queue sniggers at the raincoat wearer's discomfort.

These things tend to infuriate Muslims more than anything. When some prize pillock decided that hot cross buns were to be banned in schools I remember listening to an interview with a truly irate Muslim who went on a real rant about how these people seem to go looking for things to be offended by on their behalf when they truly couldn't give a stuff, and how it creates ill-feeling where there was none before.

Incidentally, it's fascinating that the report quoted originally doesn't mention the possibility (just as likely, or not) that it would offend Jews.

Wouldn't Three Little Pigs also be offensive to Jews too? What about the wolf, couldn't he be seen as offensive as acts in violent ways? Could the term 'fairy tails' be offensive to gays/lesbians? Most of the classic children's stores are filled with horrible violence, of abonndendment, of reality.

A good summary of the problem:

"The dogma of multiculturalism holds that all cultures are equal, except Western culture, which (unlike every other society on the planet) has a history of oppression and war is therefore worse. All religions are equal, except Christianity, which informed the beliefs of the capitalist bloodsuckers who founded America and is therefore worse. All races are equal, except Caucasians, who long ago went into business with black slave traders in Africa, and therefore they are worse. The genders, too, are equal, except for those paternalistic males, who with their testosterone and aggression have made this planet a polluted living hell, and therefore they are worse.

Once you understand this, the Multicultural Pyramid of Oppression, you can begin to understand how to turn to your advantage certain circumstances that are beyond your control: such as where you were born, the type of genitalia you were born with, into what race you were born, and the religion of your parents. You see, the fewer things you have in common with The Oppressors, the more you can cast yourself as The Victim. And as The Victim, you are virtuous, so there are certain things you can get away with that others can’t - like actually oppressing people."

But not in this case, or others like it, where the people crying foul are NOT the "victim", the "oppressed" or the "minority", but part of the majority. To try to blame the Muslims (in this case) is simply nonsense, and is precisely the kind of kneejerk reaction to a piece of stupidity that I would expect to see from the Daily Mail.

Three Little Pigs

Banco, Cornish and JGPH1A?

 grumpy

I'm the bright one who used bricks then, and told the other two tarts who built theirs of straw and wood and stood outside in their stockings and suspenders to bugger off, they're lowering the tone of the neighbourhood, and if the wolf wants it on account, give it to him.
She's as nervous as a very small nun at a penguin shoot.

Brick ? Being from Surrey probably used a cowboy Belarussian builder to build it out of Mock Tudor half-timber (with a conservatory), and it fell down after the first gust of wind - the wolf didn't get a look in.

"White Cliffs of Dover" from ever being played, sung, or listened too, because I'm white and I don't like being compared to a rock formation...

I guess they could rename the song (and the rock formation) "The multi-ethinc Clifft of Dover". Problem solved!  duck   silly

Cheers

Sure, we're concerned for our lives. Just not as concerned as saving 9 bucks on a roundtrip to Ft. Myers.

Ah, but then you have the issue of the "bluebirds" that fly over said coastal formations.

For a start, they aren't even blue. Furthermore, what if they weren't blue? Or even if they weren't birds? What if they were an ethnically diverse collection of flying creatures, congregating in the nitrogen-oxygen-CO2 mix in a harmonious and inclusive manner?

So many questions, the mind boggles!

Bizarrely, I have a book of spoof "politically correct bedtime stories" somewhere in my room... I shall have to dig it out!
Have you ever felt like you could float into the sky / like the laws of physics simply don't apply?
