My Car's Tire Is Flat

Fri Jan 25, 2008 3:02 pm

My dad got a new car in Florida and is shipping his old one to me in Ohio. Yesterday I decided to move the cars around in the garage and discovered that my precious Vett had a flat tire. That car has been with me since new in 88 and to see it with a flat tire breaks my heart. I called the towing company and they towed my baby to the garage. Once there I was told the news I was dreading. My poor car will need a new tire. Now I don't let just anyone touch my car and to have these people take the old tire off my baby and mount a new one was very traumatic for me. When I drove her home I could tell that the new tire was there. The car just didn't handle the same way as before. This whole ordeal is going to take me some time to get over.

Here is my baby in her better days with the late tire mounted on the front right.  cry

Why didn't you just change the tire yourself?

If it has sat a long time the other 3 might be flat spotted which might be part of your handling issue.
Things were better when it was two guys in a dorm room.

Quoting Airfoilsguy (Thread starter):
Yesterday I decided to move the cars around in the garage and discovered that my precious Vett had a flat tire.

OMG! I can only imagine the shock and devestation you must have felt! How could this happen?

Quoting Airfoilsguy (Thread starter):
That car has been with me since new in 88 and to see it with a flat tire breaks my heart.

You two must have a VERY close relationship. It's good to see a boy and his car need each other in such a special way, but it hurts so bad when tragedy comes between them.

Quoting Airfoilsguy (Thread starter):
I called the towing company and they towed my baby to the garage.

At least you did the right thing and took quick action!

Quoting Airfoilsguy (Thread starter):
My poor car will need a new tire.

I am so sorry. Were you not able to find a suitable donor for a transplant of the original type?

Quoting Airfoilsguy (Thread starter):
Now I don't let just anyone touch my car and to have these people take the old tire off my baby and mount a new one was very traumatic for me.

I can understand that, but you must understand that sometimes you just have to put your trust in the hands of professionals and let them use their God-given wisdom to try to help.

Quoting Airfoilsguy (Thread starter):
When I drove her home I could tell that the new tire was there. The car just didn't handle the same way as before.

That's OK, I know with the love you two have for each other you'll both be able again find that love you once shared between you. Just remember, don't blame "her", it's not "her" fault.

Quoting Airfoilsguy (Thread starter):
This whole ordeal is going to take me some time to get over.

Time heals all wounds. How very understanding of you to stay beside "her" during this difficult time. I'll be thinking of you both. Perhaps buying her a tank of Premium and a new pine air freshener will help you both to cope.

Maybe you should let the air out of the rest of tires. Then they'll all be the same.

My sympathies to you and your loved ones. I'd send a card, only Hallmark (insensitive bastards !) don't do a card for flat tyres.

Console yourself with this thought - should the worst happen and the tyre is *sob* irreparable, you're young enough to find a new tyre and move on with your life. My prayers are with you.

Don't you have a tire jack? A flat is not that big a deal, and surely to God you've changed a tire on this car before, since you've had it so long????

If all 4 tires are the same ones that have been on there since 88...did it ever occur to you that perhaps you should replace all of them?

In an effort to reduce CO2 concentrations in the atmosphere Green Peace representative Mr. David Finch has declared a "national let the air out of your tires day." Mr Finch says "according to advanced computer modeling the added oxygen to the atmosphere by deflating the worlds tires will stop a major catastrophe." Declining to answer questions or elaborate on the major catastrophe Mr. Finch only remarked "do it already, before I do it for you" and walked off stage. Sources close to Mr. Finch agree, he will do it if you refuse him.

There was an article about it in my "Save The Planet From Evil Phallo-Centric Meat-Eating White Male Capitalists Monthly" - small cells of activists are undertaking guerilla-style deflations in an effort to persuade car owners to fill their tyres only with their own exhaled carbon dioxide. You had a car towed because of a flat?

How much did that set you back?

I ask because an air tank can be picked up for 30-40 bucks and refilled at any gas station.

I do have to admit that when it does come time to buy new tires it is a bit aggravating. The tires cost about $300 each and not just anyone will mount them due to how wide the tires are and them being low profile. Last guy that did it mounted the rims facing the wrong way.  Yeah sure

I am curious...

do most of you buy tires at a local garage or to one of those "fancier" places...?

Depends on the car involved. On my Mustang or truck I go where they have the best deal. On my Vett or one of my other sports cars cars I go to the dealer. The Vett has very wide wheels and a low profile tire that is tricky to balance. On another car I have the rim is a very light rim with a unique system of balancing that only shops that specialize in those types of cars can preform.
It's not a near miss it's a near hit!!

get real tires from Continental...

Biggest pieces of sh*t ever. Bald tires soaked in baby oil would perform better.
