Which Mail Program Do People Use?

Sun Jan 27, 2008 2:36 pm

Hi

Apologies if this has been asked before just wondering what email people were using these days. Personally I have Hotmail which has now turned into Windows Live (a little more bloated and a little too much security which I can't turn off in my opnion so far). Also have a Mail.com account which recently also went from emai to email with news etc. (which again unfortunately there is no way for me to turn off so far).

So just wondering what email people were using/if they were happy with it etc.?

Many thanks for any info etc.

P.

I use a bunch based on where I am but my primary is GMAIL. It's great. Easy to navigate, allows you to archive into folders, fast. I have been very happy with it.

I have numerous accounts with Hotmail (4), Yahoo (3). As well as 3 or 4 others I use for personal and work activities. With the exception of the hotmail and yahoo accounts, I can access all my emails easily via MS Outlook.

Mozilla Thunderbird, which receives POP3 mail from my ISP and also Google Mail.

I also have a Yahoo account which I rarely use.

Microsoft Mail, included with Windows Vista. I used to use Outlook 2003, until I upgraded to Office 2007 Home & Student Edition which no longer includes Outlook.

Thunderbird for my main account (GMX), Yahoo! account and uni account. My GMX account retrieves e-mails from an ISP account I have once a day.

It's as easy as in Outlook Express for me. It's called an add-on and goes by the name of MagicSLR.  Wink Like Firefox, Thunderbird needs a few add-ons to be attractive to me... which is exactly how it's supposed to be.

Unfortunately I have to have three email accounts.

For all my friends I use my ISP's POP3 which I use Outlook Express for.

For all Army stuff, I have to use my AKO account.

For anything else, I use my yahoo account. For stuff like Amazon, or whenever I have to give my email away and don't want spam.

I don't find it any worse than anything else I have used - send and receive is just a click of a button; and I don't use things like signatures. I used Outlook Express before Thunderbird and they are just as simple as one another to use; I opted for Thunderbird simply as it integrates better with Firefox.

A variety of them:
Yahoo (3)
Juno (3)
Gmail (1)
PeoplePc (2)
MyRealBox (2)
Mail.com (1)
NetZero (1)
Verizon (1)
Lycos (2)

As you can see, I "collect" them! I use a great lil pgm called ePrompter to check on and retrieve in text form the mail from the 8 email addrs that I use most often daily...

Some of them are strickly used for only one function, like getting a particular newsletter...some are being held in reserve for future use...some are archive use only...

I have 3 Gmail accounts that I use. I am in the process of abandoning the first Gmail account since all my mail now goes to the 2nd or 3rd account. The second account is just a regular personal account. The third account is the one that was assigned to me at Arizona State Univ. so that's basically for college stuff.

Here are the accounts I used to have:

Hotmail (4)
Yahoo (2)
Excite (1)

Quoting J_Hallgren (Reply 17):

How do you like Lycos? I was gonna get an account there but I wasn't sure how good it does.

Actually I agree that setting up things like sig files, which I do use, in Thunderbird is a bit of a pain in the ass. In fact a lot of things in Thunderbird are a pain in the ass if you want to adjust settings, play w/ filters..... and the documentation for average users from Mozilla is pretty piss poor. That said I still use Thunderbird for my university account and Yahoo for junk, online shopping, etc.

3 Gmail accounts: the main personal one (which I check online), the work one (download all mail to Outlook 2003 on the work PC), and the a.net crew one (a "Gmail for your domain" account, used to download it to Thunderbird on the home computer, but went back to checking it online last time I had a BSOD). In addition, I have a Yahoo account, which used to be my main account before I switched to Gmail; and a Hotmail account, which I use only for MSN Messenger.
Don't expect to see me around that much (if at all) -- the contact link should still work, though.

Well, I guess Firefox and Thunderbird are not for everyone.  Wink I like TB though; once I got the hang of it, it all started to make a lot of sense. For example, it interacts beautifully with GnuPG which I use for signing my e-mails... wouldn't want to know what a nightmare that would have been in Outlook Express.

Thunderbird for my POP3 ISP mail (and previously for my university IMAP mail), which is serious stuff such as work or money, and Hotmail via the web for social stuff (though using facebook and the like, plus a pay monthly contract with a decent allowance, has cut down the amount of email I send to friends).

I've only got one email address and it is with Gmail. Absolutely love it. I retrieve it through Thunderbird, which works flawlessly. I've used Outlook 2007 and Windows Mail, but for some reason I prefer Thunderbird.

In the past I have had Yahoo! and Hotmail accounts which served their purpose just fine.
