As Im munching on an incredibly tasty apple right now, it got me wondering...what's your favourite type of apple?

Mine is Braeburn. Crispy and tangy and crunchy and delicious.

Braeburn is okay when I have to buy apples in a supermarket.
But I prefer to pick my own. This autumn we picked about 60 kilograms of Gala apples and stored them in our basement. A few dozen apples are still left.
One these are consumed, we will go back to the farmer and buy batches of 3 to 5 kilos of the same type (which were stored professionally).

BTW, that farmer has about 15 different sorts of apples available for PYO.

Royal Gala is tops for me. Red Delicious is a close second. Ambrosia rounds out my top three.

My top three would be

1. Braeburn - nice mix of tart and sweet. Good and juicy too.
2. Granny Smith - Reminds me of Mom's apple pie. We used to have a Granny Smith tree in our backyard and they are the best pie apple there is.
3. Fuji - A nice crisp apple

The commercially available Red Delicious that we all are familiar with is just mediocre. Interesting read on the evolution of the Red Delicious from its original form to its present form here - http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...e/2005/08/04/AR2005080402194.html.

Empire and Rome apples. I miss the apples we would get from Kashmir and Afgahnistan in my youth - fragrant and tasty.

Wow, I can't believe no one as said the Honeycrisp. Ummmm! Best apple out there!! But it's only around for a couple months in the fall. Developed by the University of Minnesota

I like Fuji Apples. There is an Orchard in Lapeer County Michigan that sells them for $20 a bushel. That is a lot of apples. They stay fresh in the refrigerator for months.

Excellent choice; also my favourite. Golden Delicious are not golden, and certainly not delicious, and Granny Smith are uninteresting.
