How Long Does It Take You To Deice Your Car?

Tue Feb 05, 2008 7:25 am

Unfortunately I do not have one of these thingies to deice my car.

However last Friday in the midst of a rhaaing storm (with pretty much instantaneous ice) and having to park my car outside it took me:

5 minutes to deice the car which had been in the parking lot for 90 minutes during the day.
10-15 minutes to deice at 10PM after the car had enjoyed a ground time of 4 hours outside.

Both of these times were with proper equipment, yet as soon as I was done the Ice was quick enough to make a comeback.

How long does it take you to get your car out of the deicing pad?

But on my MD11F it takes about 20 minutes  Wink

I can honestly say that having lived all my memorable life in SMF, I would not even begin to be able to properly de-ice my car. Sometimes frost appears, but it's nothing a hose won't fix.  Smile

Luckily I now have my car in a garage. However when it is outside, it can take anywhere for just a minute or two (wet snow) to between 5-10 (hard crusted snow/doors frozen shut/windows iced... etc).
Keep the shinny side up!

I have a scraper in my car, but I haven't used it in anger since moving to Florida.

Up where there was actual winter weather, it took about 5-10 minutes. Running the defroster loosened the stuff off the windshield, and the scraper and wiper blades were enough to do the rest (though it did use up the wiper blades pretty quickly - they were in bad shape come spring). The mirrors and rear window were electrically heated, so that solved that problem.

I've had to scrape my windsheild 2 times so far this "winter" and I doubt I'll have to do it again unless we have another one of those surprise Easter ice storms like we had last year.
