Shrove Tuesday: Whos Having Pancakes?

Its pancake day again!



Whos having pancakes for tea tonight then? I think i might swing by the supermarket and pick up the ingredients after work (or maybe just buy ready made ones).

Anyone giving up anything for lent?

I don't care for pancakes as much as I used to, and I have never cared for "eating breakfast for supper."

Absolutely!

Savoury pancakes with cheese and ham first, followed by sweet lemon pancakes.  yummy

They're actually a bit different to an American 'breakfast' pancake Stretch 8. More like a crepe. My mothers parents were English and she would always do pancakes on Shrove Tuesday when we were growing up. My fave was with lemon and sugar. YUM!

Unfortunately I didn't have pancakes tonight...forgot all about them.

In France, we have 3 traditional days for pancakes :
- Chandeleur on feb the 2nd
- Mardi Gras (shrove Tuesday) : the day before Lent
- Mi Careme (half Lent).

Couldn't do pancakes last saturday because I was out in town. But I'll get sure to have my Crepes tonight (even got the bottle of Cider).

I made crepes at lunch time, in honor of Concorde and the QE2.  veryhappy  I am a crepes expert.  goldmedal 
Today was with the maple syrup I brought back from my Three Cunard Queens trip to NYC.  airplane 
They were so delicious!!  yummy 
There was a better way to fly it was called Concorde

Not me, because for us Germans, it's carnival and time to party!  bigthumbsup 

Unfortunately, tomorrow is Ash Wednesday or Aschermittwoch, which means tomorrow carnival season ends and the politicians hold their traditional "Politischer Aschermittwoch (a traditional Bavarian political event held each Ash Wednesday)" in Bavaria.

Nope, pancakes are good for the first two bites and then I'm sick of them, perhaps I'll wolf down a pack of blueberry ego's instead. As for lent, I'm not going to give up anything either, I don't really see the point.
It may be too early to drink scotch... But it is NEVER too early to think about it...

Yes, very much so. The taste of them is rather different too. And of course, unlike in America, we never eat them for breakfast; I can't imagine why anyone would want to. Different cultures...

It's interesting to see so many different things going on in different countries for what is essentially derived from the same festival though.

You know what pisses me off about Lent? It's that on Good Friday, people refuse to make a nice, juicy beef steak. Every Good Friday I get in the mood for a steak, but since I can't make myself one (I suck at cooking), I have to rely on my mother and she outright refuses to make me a steak on Good Friday. Hell, even fast food chains in Costa Rica refuse to serve any kind of steak (beef, pork or lamb) except for fish on Good Friday.

I am now craving King Cake and didn't order any on time, since it isn't available in every grocery store here in L.A. as it was in New Orleans. I will try a bit more to find some at a restaurant, but may well have to stick with something else.

haha always remember that Ad!! I almost forgot but picked some ingredients on my way back from the airport last night. I make the Crepe type pan cakes and not the thick ones. Topped with maple syrup or Sugar and Lemon!!!
