Sedan: none of the above - Camry if I had to. Harlots don't do sedans.

Coupe: CLK, of course.

Luxury sedan: S class.

Hybrid: Prius.

Options: If one only, then AssHOT. Xenon headlights would come in second.

The Civic Hybrid is the standout in its class. Rode in a Civic recently and it's shocking how big, quiet and luxurious they are now. A 1995 Accord = 2008 Civic = 3series BMW, more or less in terms of size.

The BMW is probably a slightly better car, but it's no slam dunk. The Honda is a top shelf item.

bigthumbsup  Yup. German cars are simply better than American cars (in terms of engineering and quality), and on par with the best Japanese manufacturing operations. German cars have the best driving dynamics of anything on the road - as they are designed for sustained high speeds, which demand better quality control and better design. For my money, the best you can get is a german car.

Heated Seats and here is why: all the other things are not really a big deal. For Bluetooth, there are plenty of after market products. For GPS, there is Mapquest, my phone and my sense of direction. With wheels, there are plenty of good options out there and xenon lamps are just annoying. Heated seats work even better at keeping you warm than the regular heater on the car.

That may change within the next couple of years, though. Apparently Ford wants to redesign the rebadged Ford 500 that the current '08 model Taurus is, to the car that it should have been all along, according to Mulally. It will be interesting to see what they come up with.

The new Malibus are very impressive - but they'll need quite some time as well before the general public starts seeing that the American makers are improving big time and beginning to match foreign quality these days.

You accidentally left off the only American true luxury sedan; the Lincoln Town Car.
The Cadillac DTS is close in terms of interior volume but to have a high-end luxury sedan on a front-drive platform is an abomination!
The Lincoln Town Car is rear-drive, body on frame and more luxurious, quieter ride than a DTS.
GM should have never made anything above the Buick Park Avenue on a front-drive platform.

Don't believe in hybrids. Give me a nice economical diesel or LPG-3. I quite like A3, but won't complain at a Golf or Polo either. (Hmmm, pattern forming here. Used to be a big BMW fan, but their current styling does not do it for me.)

None of the features I care for very much. But since GPS is pretty much a must-have these days and it will increase re-sale price I'll got for that. Might come in handy too when spotting abroad, though airports are never really hard to find, are they?

I think SAN787's going by what models are available (to the retail market) this year and/or will be available for 2009. When I was at the Philadelphia Auto Show last week; there was not one Town Car on display (there was a Mercury Grand Marquis though). The overall Lincoln product brochure didn't even list it. The main product Lincoln's touting off is the new MKS; which may be fine for a mid-size crowd but NOT for the full-size crowd. The MKS's trunk capacity is only 18 cubic feet vs. the Town Car's 20.

Sure, I just think for most people, a 2008 Civic Hybrid is a nice luxurious small sedan. So is a BMW 330i.

What are their differences? The BMW will last 20 years. Nice if you keep cars 20 years. Most people don't. The BMW is faster. Yet, the Honda has enough performance to achieve any mission you throw at it. You want to cruise at 95mph in the desert, a Civic Hybrid can do that.

Anything faster is just not practical in the USA. We have a 330i in the family. It's very heavy, has a rumbly motor and has lots of performance. Has that performance ever been used? No. That would cause a police chase. Plus the car gets 20 MPG which is awful for a small sedan.

The Civic is the same size and gets 42 mpg. I wish the Civic came with leather and a few more features. It's the right engineering solution for many people incl myself. And they are sweethearts to drive. With 800lb less weight than the BMW, the Honda is lighter in urban driving. Yet it is still quiet. Plus, it runs on regular gas. Nice little cars from Honda and BMW.

Difficult for UK users as there are a lot of cars on this which simply aren't available here. Maybe we can have a simultaneous run with European-market cars!

Sedan:
Accord (much as I hate Hondas)

Coupe:
335i

Luxury Sedan:
A8

Hybrid (I wouldn't buy one):
Civic

The BMW will last 20 years.

So will a 737.. I think the upkeep on a 737 might be a tad cheaper though.

FWIW the Honda will last 20 years as well, living proof of that is sitting in my garage and it still gets driven every day.

Quoting Flighty (Reply 36):

Agreed

No argument there. They are both fairly nice and do have their merits.

I have spend less money on my BMW than most people spend on their Ford.

Sedan: Of that list, I'd get a Malibu. But in reality I'd get a Fusion which did not make that list. Note that the new Taurus is full-size (a size I avoid), and the former mid-size (my preferred size and current car) model has been replaced in Ford's lineup with a Fusion.

Coupe: Mustang GT

Luxury Sedan: Of that list, I'd get the DTS. In reality I'd get a CTS.

Hybrid: Probably a Prius, although I'm not familiar with the interior stylings or features of any hybrid.

Bonus: Heated seats.

Quoting NWA742 (Reply 25):
That may change within the next couple of years, though. Apparently Ford wants to redesign the rebadged Ford 500 that the current '08 model Taurus is, to the car that it should have been all along, according to Mulally. It will be interesting to see what they come up with.

This has already been done. It is on fordvehicles.com if you want to look at it. See my Sedan comments as well.

Friends should let friends experience real cars. box yes

To paraphrase the Buick motto of long ago (When better cars are built, Buick will build them), when better cars are built, the Germans won't build them.

Had two MB 450SEL sedans in my fleet, either one of them gave me more trouble than all ten of my GM cars together. This was back in the mid eighties when the domestic cars were supposed to be just mobile junk.

These cars are maintenance hogs, unacceptably unreliable and horribly overpriced for what you get. Audis are a little better, at least the dozen or so models I've driven over the last few years, and the BMWs are the best of the lot of uninspiring so-called luxury sport sedans

On the other hand, Infiniti and Lexus build very good cars, and don't pretend that their offerings are "Sport" sedans.
I don't like little cars, unless it's a real sports car, eg. Porsche 356 or 911, Triumph TR3, Austin Healey or Jag 120/140/150, but in the luxury car class (V8 power, rear wheel drive) I would take the top of the line Lexus, Infiniti, Jag XJR or Lincoln Ultimate "L"
if ya gotta crash, hit something soft and cheap!

Sure it is. You simply need to be creative about the application of that speed and power.

As a former BMW owner, I can back that up. All I ever had to do with mine is replace the clutch. Additionally, there is a BMW in the family since new (2001) that has 110,000 miles on it now - with no major issues and just normal servicing throughout its lifetime.
