What's your favorite type of water to drink? Bottled, canned, tap ...

Bottled

Tap water. I never got sick of it in my entire life. I just can't drink that bottled/canned/filtered/sparkling stuff they call water nowadays.

agreed, not only do they come with weird flavors that I could care less about (though admittedly some are really good) but I am definitely not going to pay $1.35 for a bottle of water from a vending machine when there's a drinking fountain only steps away from it.

Tap for me, but my fridge has that water feature that filters it and all. I seem to be taking that for granted nowadays, but hey it's convenient.

And if it were bottled, no carbonation please. It still bewilders me to think that Europeans drink that on a regular basis.  yuck

Tap here, too, unless I want sparkling which happens once a month at most. When I'm on the move or in some place where I'm not sure about the tap water, I'll buy bottled.

It depends really where I am: In Plymouth our water tastes so strongly of chlorine that we have to filter it several times before it's OK to drink, so usually we just buy bottled, which is a shame as the water itself comes from streams and rivers draining off Dartmoor which taste fine when I drink straight from them when out walking or cycling. Birmingham's water is nice though, it comes from the Elan Valley in mid Wales via the mother of all pipes and I drink that straight from the tap, whilst the water piped to our house in Spain is completely undrinkable, so you have to buy bottled - which means weekly trips to the local shop to bring back 20 or 30 litres worth!

no wonder why I wandered around a department store in Munich for 30+ minutes to find water "ohne Kohlensäure" (spelling? My German seems to have really gone downhill in the past few years)

Well water from Northern Michigan, now that's some good stuff. Naturally filtered by sand a couple hundred feet down. Tap in Cleveland and where I live in SE Michigan is excellent as well.

Usually I just fill my nalgene bottle from the water fountain. It's free & cold. If I do buy water, it is Aquafina because the U of A is extremely attached to Pepsi. I don't mind the taste of Aquafina at all, but free is better.

Here in Barrie I find the water has a strong chlorine smell and taste so I put it water through a Brita unit which is in the fridge. At home in Toronto the tap water is fine.

Tap Water!! Here in Honolulu our tap water is better than bottled, no questions asked.

I remember drinking my first bottled water in the early 1990s. My Aunt made of point of telling us how good (expensive) evian was so we could enjoy it. I thought it tasted like crap. TAP WATER PLEASE!!

I do a mix of bottled and tap, but I will not drink bottled water that is simply filtered tap water, and only if it has a high mineral content. I do like the sparkling stuff, though my favorite, Gerolsteiner, is not nearly as good now that they use plastic bottles.

The really sad thing about that is Aquafina is likely the same tap water you normally drink.

Sparkling (carbonated) water with natural minerals in them at a temperature of around 10-15 °C / 50-60F.
Needs to be in a glass bottle, no PET bottle, no fancy brand.
High on Calcium, Magnesium and Sulphates, rather low on Sodium and Chlorides.
If there is Potassum in it, the better.
The combination of Magnesium and Kalium helps to prevent muscle spams.
So there will ne no need to add these minerals via tablets to one's body.
I drink about 3+ litres of it per day, but on a normal day I drink nothing else (no coffee, tea, lemonade, ...).
I drink it in order to keep my stomach busy (= filled) while staying away from any source of calories before noon and after 8pm making it a low-calorie diet of normal days.

Also, there is nothing wrong for me with drinking water right from the tap or a drinking fountain as long as there is no chlorine in it.

Flavoured carbonated water is one of the worst invention since a long time, IMO.
I still think, these products shoul dbe required to be advertised as "Lemonade" rather than "Water".

Next worse thing it all these bottled "Sodium free"-waters being sold in the U.S. for drinking purposes. Over here in Germany, these waters would end up in your steam-iron.
When being in the U.S. and I have no other option than to drink these waters, I usually add some salt to a galon of it in order to give it at least some taste.

One positive aspect of sparkling water is that it helps in regulating the acids in your stomach.

Tap water for sure! It tastes great, it's safe to drink, it's free, and above all... it is an infinitely more environmentally sound than drinking bottled water. My personal rule of thumb is that if if I can get the same product without having to purchase it in a bottle, I do it. As a result, the only bottled water I'll seek out is sparkling water (Perrier? San Pellegrino? It's all good...) Big grin

I somehow have a problem with non-sparkling water, it just leaves me thirsty... even worse if bottled, tap water is better.

I usually drink a soda of some sort (Coke, whatever), but if there are none available, my second choice will be sparkling water, then tap water, and only as a very-last-resort bottled non-sparkling water.

Any chemistry specialist who know why this is like this? Do I have a water-resistant body?  Smile

Apparently now some big cities are looking at persuading people not to buy bottled water: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21214017/

Tap water...But Filtered.

The point in "Filtered" might vary with location i.e. being sometimes advisable if the quality of the water received through the pipe is less than optimal.
Using a micro-mesh filter to filter out any particles (and this includes bacteria !) is effective if the filter is replaced ever so often.
Getting rid of chlorine would require to have filters with activated charcoal (also to be replaced at intervals).

Quoting Greggarious (Reply 15):
Tap water for sure! It tastes great,

That's not true for every location !
At least for non-residients, tap water in Odessa, TX tastes like there is some residual crude oil in it.
This is the only place in the U.S. I have been to (minus really remote locations) where I heavily relied on bottled, still water and water from drinking fountians with filters attached.

Quoting GimliGlider (Reply 12):

Quite good. Better and cheaper than San Pellegrino.
Quite amazing that Gerolsteiner is being shipped all the way to the U.S., but I have seen it in quite a number of stores in the Southwest.

According to your profile, you indeed are loacted in an area where good water is available. Just think of the reason why there is that big brewery around the corner from you in Golden, CO ...

Tap water: our local tap water actually surpassed the most popular brands of bottled water in a blind taste test.

Overseas I'll usually just select a reputable local water.

We once did a bottled water taste test in the back galley on a long flight we had about 1/2 a dozen brands. Including some from Ireland, kazhakstan, and the middle east. I forget which one won. I think Aquafina. Personally I like distilled. I hate spring-water. Best tap water in the world was out of my grandmothers faucet in Manhattan. It was sweet and refreshing mmmm!
