Following on from the "what is in your garage?" thread, what was your first car? (all similar threads to this are archived).
Mine was a Fiat Strada, D-reg (1986). Cost the princely sum of £50, and I was surprised it even lasted a year! Even had a manual choke...

It was a nice FWD vehicle to drive but a bit underpowered. It was more reliable than most German cars but also was a fair bit simpler.

I had a 1980 VW Rabbit Diesel. I loved that car. Sometimes I'm tempted to go and get another one of that year and model.

1989 Cadillac Fleetwood-one of the last years for the old bodystyle, reliable and built like a tank. Had all the bells and whistles including a glass moonroof. One neat feature of the Cadillacs was the fact that each lamp had an indicator to show proper functioning. If the indicator light went out, you knew that the bulb was burned out.

My first car was a 2001 Peugeot 106, and was brand new. Was horrible to drive as it had no power steering, air-con, CD player, electric windows or central locking, but the new reg about 6 weeks after I bought it had everything and was cheaper

My first car was a 1998 Honda Accord EX auto which I got in July 2002. It was the first year of the redesigned model.
Very nice car with good handling for its size, and quite economical with the 2.3L engine. However at the time I wanted something more powerful and went for a 2000 Nissan Maxima six months later. I have been trawling eBay for a 1998-1999 Accord Coupe - if I can find one for a decent price and in good shape it will replace my Peugeot 306

85 Escort GT that I pimped out and spent WAY too much for a stereo on. Looked a lot like this but mine was midnight blue and had ZZ top stripes going up the side of the car into the windows.

My first car was a '73 Pinto hatchback. I took delivery on 06feb73 and when I last bought gas for it in July '81 it had 109,003 miles on it. By then the doors had rusted out and the transmission was shot but that car owed me nothing. I drove it on a farewell tour down to New York and through the middle of Manhattan. That was scary!
There was the issue with the exploding gas tank on that model but I still liked it.

Fading/chipping maroon paint, no shocks in the back, bad transmission, doors that sounded like dracula's castle doors opening, constantly dying battery...

My first car was a 1998 Volvo V40 1,9 D. After a few months I traded it for a V40 T4. I just couldnt stand only having 92 ponies under the hood!

My first car was a 1970 Chevrolet Nova 4dr. It had a 307 V8 and automatic transmission, but no power steering, power brakes, or air conditioning. When I first got the car it did have an under-dash (dealer-installed) A/C unit that didn't work, but after about the second time of cracking my shin on that space-hogging monstrosity it came out and went straight in the bin.
Able to kill active threads stone dead with a single post!

A VW Beatles 1200.All electric systems were 6V and not 12V.Did have a bad time finding a radio,electrical spare parts for it.It was orange colored.That was in 1971 in Egypt.

A white 1981 Ford Escort mk3. Same shape as in the pic below. Belonged to my Granddad from new until he died. My Gran didn't drive, so i ended up buying it off her. It had barely been out of the county in its whole lifetime. As soon as i got it, I drove it straight across Europe
Just when I thought I could see light at the end of the tunnel, it was some B*****d with a torch bringing me more work

I got it for free from dad as soon as I got my license . It was already 10 yrs old but I had a lot of fun with that little bastard and its totally rebuilt 1050cc engine. Seats wouldn't recline, only one side rear view mirror and no air cond. !

1974 Mercury Comet. Bought for C$90 off my neighbour in YYC. Mine didn't have mags though, although I did paint a Starksy and Hutch style "swoosh" on it with a paint roller. And, as with most 17/18 year olds, the stereo cost more than the car!!!
Breakfast in BHX, lunch in FAO, dinner in TIP, baggage in YYC.

The first car I ever bought was a 1989 Dodge Aries K sedan, twilight blue exterior with blue interior (with wood accents). I bought it on July 17, 1996, and it lasted me 3 years (and suffered through 3 accidents), before it was totaled on Nov. 5, 1999, in a collision with a deer. It was a beautiful, reliable car, with no rust anywhere.
But what I remember more fondly was the 1978 Chrysler LeBaron Town & Country station wagon my family had when I was first adopted, so it was actually the first car I really remember in my family! It looked exactly like the one in the photo below. I'm still looking for one to this day...

Mine was a 1999 VW Passat 1.8T.
It was my father´s car, and when I got my driver´s license he bought another car for him, and gave me the Passat.
I liked very much the comfort of the car, but lots of problems started to appear in the end of 2005, so in june 2006 I got a brand new Ford Fusion SEL. I stayed some time with both cars!

My first car was a gift from my parents, a very well worn out 1980 Oldsmobile Omega similar to the one pictured below (mine was blue):
No air conditioning, AM radio, and if I remember correctly it didn't even have power steering. My parents replaced it a year later with a Sable, since the repairs needed for the Omega would cost more than the car was worth.

My first car was an Austin/Rover Metro 1.3 from 1988/9 (can't remember, but it was one of the transitional Metros between Austin and Rover branding). Four-speed, stereo radio, front head restraints, manual windows, manual mirrors, manual choke. Classic British car (er, not!). Stolen once, retrieved and used until last year.
Have you ever felt like you could float into the sky / like the laws of physics simply don't apply?

My first car was a 1996 Acura Integra GS-R. I didn't own a car until I was 24. We just sold it in November to make room for our new silver baby, after 11 years. That's her in the middle. I shed some tears when I sold her.

About a week after receiving my driver's license (back in 1982); I purchased a 1969 Ford LTD sedan for $300 (similar to the one pictured below):
It had the optional Brougham trim (it wasn't a separate series yet), the base 302 (5.0) V8, 108k on the odometer, and was Champagne Gold w/a black vinyl roof. Ran it for about 2 years.
While the RWD '89 Cadillac (actually called 'Brougham' by this point & time; the Fleetwood name would return to the restyled RWD model in '93) was the last year for the analog speedometer and rectangular quad headlights; the body style continued (though face-lifted in 1990) continued through the 1992 model year.

1991 VW Passat Variant (wagon), silver, 2.0L, my mom has had it since 1990, passed it on to me in 2000 when I went to highschool. Had it up to '04 when I left for college. It was a maintenance whore, and chugged oil like crazy, and probably only had 50hp left out of the 130hp it was capable of when new. Dashboard was dead, (except for gas and temp, thank god, 'cuz it would overheat in a second over the summer), slow as hell, and smoked, but...
I LOVED HER!!!
Had beautiful handling, build quality was superb (the car has been now sitting in a back lot behind my dads factory for 5 years unprotected to the elements) and EVERYTHING is still in perfect condition, once you remove the dirt on the outside. In fact, inside, it has no dust whatsoever. That's how tight the fit is on these things. Not a single tear or stain anywhere on the car (and its not like we pampered the car,specially back when i was 9y/o and my bro 6, and we once let crayolas melt in the back seats in the summer lol). It goes up to 46C in the summer, so that means at least its 60ish inside the car, and yet not a single piece of trim is faded. Also, its very, very big and roomy inside, all my highschool friends would oooooh and aaah when they sat on it (then again, they drove pos cavaliers and civics). Also it had many features that you would only find in a Mercedes S class back in the day.
Current Passats are still awesome cars, they just don't build them like tanks anymore, though they are still excellent quality for todays standards.
Money permitting, I'm just buying german cars for the rest of my life.

it was a Peugeot 205 DTurbo... The very first was light grey and I had a dark green similar to this one a few months later after an accident. I sold it a few years after at 200000km and it was still in perfect conditions, sometimes I still miss this car.

The first car that was actually mine was a 1978 Mercury Grand Marquis, it was lost in a garage fire just before I got my driver's licence.
After that my mother bought a new car and I was given her 9 year old Lincoln Town Car. It got me through High School but my parents "brain washed" me into trading it in for a Neon (for the better gas milage) when I was going to college.
I wish I had acutall pictures but I thought at the time both of these cars were going to be with me forever. I may have some pictures of the Grand Marquis in an old family photo album somwhere, but I wouldn't know where.
Both of these are identical to the cars I once had.

Oval rear window, correct? I had a friend in high school who drove an absolutely mint condition Bug that was bought brand new for her mother when her mother was in high school. It had been painstakingly restored and ran like a champ.
