Who's Watching The Lunar Eclipse Tonight?

Thu Feb 21, 2008 2:25 am

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/23184927/

As many of you know the Lunar Eclipse will be visible tonight I plan on taking pictures if the sky is clear enough.

"The main event begins at 10:01 p.m. ET, when the moon is completely covered by the darkest part of Earth's shadow. That translates to 9:01 p.m. CT, 8:01 p.m. MT and 7:01 p.m. PT. The total phase of the eclipse lasts 51 minutes, and the moon starts coming out of the darkest shadow, or umbra, at 10:52 p.m. ET."

I'm watching it right now with my telescope. I also saw Saturn and its rings which I've been waiting to see for a long time. And I saw Saturn's moons.

No point here (SF Bay Area). We're completely clouded over, with more rain rain on the way!  Sad
Look, it's been swell, but the swelling's gone down.

Looking good so far! An absolutely perfect clear, cold night here in SE Michigan! Couldn't ask for a better night. I don't know how those star nerds can do all that math to figure out when these things happen.

Looks spectacular. I have my camera outside, and plan to let it record for about an hour for a time lapse.  Wink

Well after about two weeks of clear skies and freezing weather in the UK, tonight of all nights it decides to cloud over. In fact, even up to around two hours ago i could see the moon through the clouds. So no, I'm not watching it, because there are too many big fluffy things in the way.

I just came in to have some hot soup (it's freezing outside) and I'm on my way to rejoin the kids on the porch outside. Believe it or not, it's the first lunar eclipse for me.

Saw it in Boston about an hour ago. Clear skies. Lovely but eerie.

I'm not far away from you, and there were two "stars" out there near the moon . . . not sure which is Saturn.

Bummer it lasted less than an hour - I saw it, then saw it more covered . . . looked later and saw the light creeping back onto the moon. Still cool to see though - a red moon.

Now that I've walked out again, I see what you're saying, Blue - from the midwest, the one to the left as I look up is brighter - that's probably it.

A litter bitter sweet here in MKE as I had to brave the single digit temps to get a good view of the moon in the crystal clear night sky. The "red glow" of the moon wasn't as obvious/bright as I thought it would be, but it was still pretty cool to see. Lookin out my window now I can see the Earth's shadow is just barely covering up a portion of the moon now. I wish I had a telescope...

The skies were clear in Northwest Oregon, a pleasant surprise as the forecast had been calling for clouds. Wasn't too cold, either.

I saw it here in Alabama through scattered clouds. The whole time I was watching it, I was thinking what an awesome sight it would be from exactly where you are.

I had a quick glance outside when it was supposed to be at it's best, but couldn't see anything - too many clouds and too much light from the city around me.

Saturn was the bright looking one next to the moon. As I was looking at the moon I looked at different stars. One of them was really bright and then I noticed the shape of rings going around it and new that was Saturn. There were other stars next to the moon too.

When is the next eclipse? I glanced at it and wondering why the moon appeared to look, well, weird. I didn't know there was to be another eclipse. I'm glad I glanced at it when I did..
