IPod Nano Frozen

Fri Feb 22, 2008 8:29 am

I was charging my iPod nano by connecting it to the computer, but I went out in a rush so I unplugged it with the "DO NOT DISCONNECT" still flashing (bad idea, I know). Now my iPod is completely frozen, with the screen still illuminated and no button works. I can't turn it off or anything and plugging it in the computer does nothing. What can I do? Wait till the battery runs out?

Can you manually disconnect the battery and just plug it right back in?

And don't worry - Klaus has alarms next to his bed and at his place of work that will alert him anytime someone mentions "Apple" or "ixx* on this board. He should be here soon.

No, the iPod batteries are built in and you can't open the aluminum case  Sad

Try holding down the center button and the MENU part of the scroll wheel at the same time for 10 or so seconds. It should reboot back to normal.

Try putting it next to the fire. That'll unfreeze it.

Actually you can, you just have to know what you're doing.  Wink

Not to be a smart ass, but next time, listen to it when it says do not disconnect.

Let the battery completely drain out, then re charge, and you'll be fine.

Ow you can...  Smile Google it  Wink

My pod freezes from time to time, I always forget the reset procedure, so I just wriggle it open, unplug and replug the battery, and let the pod reboot...

Well, obviously not!

I would just have explained the reset combination as well.

I usually let the auto-sync of contacts and calendars go through, swap in some fresh music for the already played titles (my nano can't hold my entire library) and then I immediately eject it again. So apart from the short while after connection, it is simply charging without being locked. I can thus disconnect it at any time thereafter, even when I'm not logged in to the computer.

Wouldn't it be slightly easier to just keep a note in your wallet with the key combination if you can't remember it?

Probably... but this way is more fun. I always get confused looks from people when I'm like queuing at a sandwich bar and start breaking open my pod...  Smile
