Friday's Stupid Thread - Hot Or Cold Breakfast?

Fri Feb 22, 2008 11:30 am

As the title says. I prefer a hot breakfast with eggs, bacon/sausages, croissants and more but I don't always have time to have it. You ?

I prefer a cooked breakfast - usually bacon or sausages, fried eggs, toast, mushrooms, beans and a tomato, topped with HP sauce. But for health (and time) reasons we usually only have cooked breakfast maybe once a week (at weekends, if that). My wife's favourite is bacon with eggy bread (French toast she calls it?), drizzled with golden syrup. Rest of the time, either a bowl of cereal or toast and marmalade.

This please!

But I'm also coming round to the American breakfast of sausage links, crispy bacon and fluffy pancakes drowned in syrup, how could I not??

At home I have a cold breakfast because I do not have the time of a hot one. But on vacation I love a hot one or a buffet.

Scrambled eggs, pain perdu, and of course toast, toast, toast. I like my mornings warm and cozy. I even heat my underwear on a radiator before dressing in the morning (just a dirty little secret I thought I might share here, sorry.)

Neither!!!!

I very rarely eat anything for Breakfast. Usually try to eat a light lunch around 11:00 and then have a big supper in the evening.

I don't know, I guess I'm just not hungry when I wake up in the morning.

Depends on the day and what I've got going on.

On duty, as I get up at 0300 each day I rarely eat much breakfast - usually some oatmeal and a bagel. Good for the blood pressure and cholesterol - I'm getting  old  ya know.

When I'm home, occasionally I'll make breakfast for the family before they are up and off to school. Most times, don't get up early enough for breakfast.

You know I was thinking about this a little more after my first post and I think it really comes down to the fact that I strongly dislike most of the foods that are associated with breakfast.

I absolutely hate eggs in all forms. I don't care if they are scrambled, fried, poached, etc., hate them all. Makes my stomach sick just thinking about it.

Not a fan of cereal or oatmeal.

Not a fan of cold rolls or doughnuts either.

I do LOVE bacon however!!!!

I don't eat breakfast when I'm at home but if I am on a trip I enjoy an omelette with cheese, ham, mushrooms, onions, peppers.... after a few days I switch to the bread cheese ham routine. In Europe I have the continental with a boiled egg and a couple of sausages, while in the UK it is the full greasy cardio nightmare: fried bread, fried eggs, bacon, sausage mushrooms, beans.... yum!

Breakfast of champions.....black coffee, my vitamins and a Marlboro.

Then later at work, I'll have a low-fat fruit yogurt followed about a half hour later by a granola bar.

Fried salted dried fish, longanisa, eggs over easy, with a bowl or rice or pan de sal.

I'm a big sucker for a full-Southern Breakfast. Biscuits, sausage, and country gravy.

I love bacon, but not as super crispy as does everyone. I like to chew on the fat.

Im not a morning person, so it takes all my effort to get out of bed nevermind think about breakfast. Hot breakfast is my favourite though, especially when I'm at home and my dad makes a full English on a Sunday morning, just what I need when I've been drinking with him pint for pint, lol. Usually I have toast or cereal, and if I have plenty of time, I'll make eggs and toast (which isn't very often)

If I go out for breakfast on a weekend, maybe once a month if even that, I'll get some sort of pancakes and eggs... extra crispy hash browns and a couple pieces of bacon.

My normal breakfast is a package of oatmeal with soy milk. I'm fond of Kashi's oatmeals. 7 whole grains on a mission.... a couple hours after my oatmeal i'll usually have a granola bar too.

If i had my way i would like my breakfast cold. Meats, cheeses, fresh bread and coffee and maybe some jam to sweeten it up a bit. But, since i married a Canadian girl, i have bacon and eggs and toast or hash browns on the weekend. I usually cook it which i like doing. I do enjoy the bacon and eggs, but i would prefer the cold one better.
During the week i have coffee and toast, that's it.....with an early lunch.

It depends mostly on the season for me

In the fall/winter I will eat something warm like some waffles or a (very half-assed) omlette with some hash browns. Maybe some oatmeal if I feel like it, but anything warm and keeps me going.

In the spring/summer I will eat anything cold and usually light. I am able to keep myself going with a smoothie I make from scratch and a toasted bagel with cream cheese. Also that works well as my "to-go" breakfast.

Cold...I can't face a big meal first thing in the morning. Cereal, toast, or oatmeal...well, I guess the last two are hot - but I don't want a big breakfast.

When we are bonspieling (playing in a weekend curling tournament) we often go for breakfast after our morning games. There are a couple of great hole in the wall family breakfast places near the curling club in Seattle. There I get toast, scrambled eggs, hash browns, and bacon...oh, sweet bacon.  Smile This usually tides me over for the rest of the day and I have to make sure I'm not going to be curling for at least a couple of hours after eating this.

Fun curling fact: the worst time to play in a bonspiel is right after the Saturday banquet dinner, because everybody's out on the ice farting as they squat to throw.  Smile

Hot breakfast in the morning - cold breakfast (Cereal) for dinner.

Not that I partake in such a lifestyle often, but I really like having cereal for lunch or dinner...it's so convenient.

Speaking of breakfast in the morning - there's this amazing place not too far from where I live called the "Rise and Dine" - they serve Douwe Egberts coffee, which is easily my favorite coffee ... I don't know anyone else around here who serves it. The only other place I've had it recently was the Embassy Suites in Garden Grove, Calif.

Very tasty!

Bacon, omlette, toast, french toast, pancakes...

But I usually go with a healthier hot breakfast:

Oatmeal and scrambled eggs

Depends on the day and what I've got going on.

Pretty much the case - my usual weekly breakfast is a fruit smoothie and then a cup of coffee (light and sweet) once I get to the office. When I do have time for breakfast it depends on my mood. I'll settle for a bowl of cold cereal on some days, but on others I want a nice waffle, or two, dripping with warm maple syrup, a hot cup of coffee, a cold glass of orange juice (sans pulp, please), two eggs, scrambled, a few strips of bacon to go with it, and maybe a few home fries on the side as well.
