Mine is £60 per week, or £260 per month, for one room in a four bedroom house which I share with friends. That's not including bills or TV/phone etc... but it's still quite good for a fairly reasonable area (Perry Barr/Great Barr) of Birmingham in the UK - even if one of the worst is just a few miles down the road.

One bedroom apartment modern (2007) secure entry has balcony 595 Pounds per month 82 Pounds per month council tax electricity 167.42 Pounds was my bill for my last quarter. I like it. It isn't the cheapest in my area but like the fact when I go and visit my parents in Marbella the place is safe. I also get a reserved parking space as part of the deal and it includes the cost of property maintenance and water bill.

Is that a purpose built flat? two bedroom ones in the Southend the area I live are around 800-850 pcm. You can get ones with sea views for around 1500pcm.

Yep. Part of a complex of 5 blocks, all joined, of 3 storeys high. In fact I used to deliver newspapers to them in 1967/8 just after they were built!
When I moved in I had to get the landlady to have the two, single point, electrical sockets in the lounge changed to 3-gang so that I could run more than one item off them and not rely on multi-sockets! But other than the annoying whistle through the double glazing when the wind blows, it's fine
Just a pain she won't allow pets - I'll have to move before the wife gets over with the cats!

Well... the mortgage on my house in NW Calgary is $1369/mo... but I have three roommates living in here so I only pay about $320 a month plus a small portion of the utilities... perfect set up.

Are there any reasonable areas near Perry Barr?! (as a student, I had a shared room for £40/week in Erdington, in a cul-de-sac off Reservoir Rd. Very nice!)
Currently, mortgage is £500/m for a modern 2-bed terrace in Norwich. I also have a 1-bed terrace house, no garden, in a small town in Suffolk that I rent out for £480/m (exactly covers its mortgage). Another 27 years and it will be free income...

I pay CAD450 plus utilities (hydro, phone, cable, internet) for the smaller bedroom in a 2 bedroom apartment about a 5 minute bus ride to downtown Ottawa (or a 20 min walk if I'm feeling up for it).

Haha, nice. Actually, for now that is true. I've been living at home for the past three and a half months, so I can pay off some debt I accumulated in college. Living with your parents at my age is always very cool and makes you that much more attractive to women. However, within the next month or two, I expect to be all my debt to be paid off.
The apartments I was looking at yesterday were between $1300-$1600 a month (inclusive of parking, water, hi-speed, and garbage service). I'm still debating if I want to pay that extra money for a second bedroom to use as a media room or office. And, no, Mommy and Daddy won't pay for anything.
