A House A.netters Would Kill For

Mon Mar 03, 2008 10:17 pm

The following is a report from a Dutch program, the reporter went to visit a Belgian farmer... His farm is located right below the approach for BRU. Every few minutes, a jet races over his house

There are no subs, but the images say everything.

Just one translation... the airport authorities placed an approach beacon behind the farmers house. They made up a contract, back in the seventies, to give the farmer 100 Belgian Francs each year for this... the money has never been adjusted to inflation, so now the guy still gets just 2.5 euro's per year...

The report must date from late nineties, if you look at all the Sabena planes that are coming by.

I feel sorry for the guy, that A340 looked about to clip his roof.

I think it would be great for a few days or so, but after a while get old. Now if it was LHR or CDG, might be a different story!  Wink

Sweet! If he ever wanted to sell his house, he wouldn't even have to put an add in the paper or anything, just post a thread here and it would be sold within an hour ... lol!

Nah, Brussels is much more interesting.
Being the capital of Europe ,the seat of NATO HQ, a military base (melsbroek) and a cargo hub it sees a lot of uncommon planes like all kind of USAF C-planes (C37/C40/....) government planes, rare African planes (usually older birds) , large military planes and unusual cargo planes.
Therefore it must be one of the most interesting places to spot and that Farm must see all of them close by. Big grin

Wow, you know by the looks of it, he seems ready to retire. We should team up, and buy his house; we could turn it into the World headquarters of A.net. Rent out rooms and camping areas, we could make a fortune! Turn the second story into an observation deck, it would be like a European St. Maarten. I'd stay there, albeit only for a few days, I too need some sleep Big grin

But ofcourse... since five years you mainly get to see avrojets, lots and lots of avrojets!  Wink

It's true though, you often get a great variety of planes in BRU. Too bad Hewa Bora doesn't fly their L1011 here anymore. Everytime I saw that old bird rolling on the runway, I had my sincere doubts wether or not the pilot was going to get it in the air  Smile

Well it would appear this man's house is no longer there.

The latest satellite imagery shows construction off the approach end of RWY 02.

Now, now puny little provincial, don't piss off us mighty leaders of Europe.
I'll inform our President of Europe, who happens to be living close by, and tell him of this act of civil disobedience from one of his subordinates.  alert   mischievous

Yeah, that's right,
there is a TGV line running thrue his house now.

My grandmother used to live in the same village, knew the guy and she told me he was just to stubborn to move...
Eventually it happened, not to the airport but due to the railway company!

As our fortune increases, we shall outsource to other airports, and build more and more a.net homes. Eventually, we shall be classified as a sect.

How great would it be if we had a home under every major airport, from SYD, LAX, JFK, ATL, LHR, CDG, FRA, PEK and many many more!!!
