British Soldiers Lewd Acts, Sent Home

Tue Mar 04, 2008 10:08 pm

So a group of British soldiers are being sent home, after running around naked in a bar, pissing in public, and upsetting a Norwegian town.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/liv...cle_id=524553&in_page_id=1811&ct=5

Quote:
Eight British Commandos have been flown home in disgrace for stripping naked and engaging in appalling behaviour in a Norwegian bar during an Arctic training exercise.

The men disgusted onlookers in the town of Harstad with a drunken game of "naked bar".

After whipping off their clothes, they urinated on each other - splashing other customers and furniture - before slurring insults and abuse.

Furious senior officers ordered the soldiers, from the Army's 59 Independent Commando Squadron Royal Engineers, back home to face disciplinary action.

Now... WTF?!?

"Naked bar"???? Eight grown men getting naked with each other, PISSING on each other, and playing grab ass in public? Seriously... what the f*ck?

Quote:
"Naked Bar" is a popular drinking game in many units across the British armed forces.

Wow. That's kinda sounds like repressed sexual tendencies. Anyway, so what do you all think? Eight fools making the whole group look bad, or a bigger issue considering the game is apparently popular amongst other soldiers?

Well, what happens when you are away from the opposite sex for a looooong time? Do you go a little crazy? Do you build up enough to then conceive multiple children?...

Otherwise, it sounds pretty messed up.

eyepopping  WTF indeed - disturbing. My brother was a Marine reservist for some time and occasionally had to put a stop to some rowdiness on courses like these... but he's never mentioned anything remotely like this.

In the Daily Wail as well. As such there's an immediate reason to question it. If it is true then they should be court marshalled and dealt with severely both in the UK and Norway.

I'd never heard of this "game" . . . of course my last interface with the British Army was in Baumholder Germany in the mid 80s . . . always got along quite well.

Hopefully the media has this wrong and it's not a "popular" game.

.......they are infamous for naked roll matt fighting...... no really..

Seriously though, they are Marines and they are soldiers, soldiers do strange things when drunk and/or for the sure ammusement of it. I'm sure they thought it was hillarious and totally acceptable untill the RMP turned up and crashed the party !

From the BBC
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7276314.stm

It's completely unacceptable and they'll no dobut be punished accordingly, they've already been flown home and fined.
It is most likely just an idea that sounded like a good laugh encouraged by alchool. It's something that puts a bad name to tarnish the reputation of many fine soldiers, it's idiots like these who do dumb things.

I know I'm not BMIFlyer....but I've heard of this game and it's not exactly what the paper portrays it as, it's not popular and it's not really that funny....to a sober squaddie atleast.

My question is this: why didn't the bartender IMMEDIATELY call the local police or even the Military Police? These guys were completely out of control.

Could've been worse . . . just suppose they were playing "soggy biscuit" . . . or is that just confined to rugby players? Big grin

Just drunken lads' play that got a bit out of hand. If it wasn't for the pissing part it would've been completely harmless.

Having worked as a bartender for many years, we always used to dread when navy ships would be in port. The British navy was the worst by a long shot, followed in rapid succession by the US and Canadian navies....they used to wreck the place. We had the men's rom completely destroyed, urinals and sinks pulled off the walls, pee all over the floor both in the men's room and in the bar area. I had to get management to call the cops several times on guys who felt it necessary to display their 'weapons' on my bar....

Finally, management decided that naval personnel would no longer be welcome in that pub, and they hired a bouncer to keep them out whenever the fleet ws in town....

Submariners and pilots were amazingly well-behaved, as were the navies from the Scandinavian region....but they suffered because of the behavior of the rest of the crowd....

When you think about it, soldiers off-duty are bound to be a little more reckless than the rest of us. This is nothing to get worked-up about.

It is a shame how a few jerks can ruin a country's image. I hope that they face severe disipline, including the jail for a while. They will probably lose rank, pay, retirement benefits, get a less than honorable discharge, criminal records and s on all for really stupid behavior. To me a good solder, especially an officer, is supposed to know how to beheave at all times and do so.

British squaddies and sailors have the reputation of getting a bit rowdy when drunk, and this reputation dates back to before Nelson's time.
A friend, who used to be a captain in the British Army told me about his whole infantry battalion including officer commanding (being based in Germany with the British Army of the Rhine back then) getting by bus to the Hamburg red light district and then marching (wearing a kind of semi uniform, civilian clothes, but different coloured sweat shirts for each company) in formation down the Reeperbahn to the bars and brothels.
This caused, of course, a huge alert for the red caps, the MP.

There comes a point being in public where certain actions get to a level that simply isn't acceptable for a person in the military. They reached that point and shamed their unit, command, branch, and country. They need punishment.

WOC School?

I just graduated from WOC School at the end of Feb and I can assure you that it is a highly professional, officer development course. I take offense that such an allegation would be made! WOCS was a school were I learned the technical skills necessary to ensure a properly cleaned car, as well as a serviceable coffee cup. At no time was grab ass encouraged, nor tolerated. Well except at previously mentioned car washing engagements, or at any other time TAC officers were not present, and ohh ya there was that one time in the field, but it was just one time! (that we got caught)
As to the behavior of the British Soldiers. Inexcusable. I'm sure that they succumbed to some possible cabin fever, or the altered brain state that occurs during/ following extended periods of military training. However, as soldiers in another country they are the ambassadors of not only their military, but their extended country as well. And well as a soldier, I've seen some weird things deemed funny, but this one would have to take the cake as one of the most out there jokes.

As I started reading your post, I was like... what the f*ck? Did they freakin brain wash him while he was there?

I wish you had told me that you were graduating. I was just down at Rucker for a few weeks for the Mike Model transition course. I would have made my way over to your graduation ceremony. Well anway, congrats on becoming a young WO1! And if you thought WOC school was bullshit, just wait for the fun over at B Co. From what I hear from the new WOJs in my unit, it's worse than when I went through 3 years ago. Your goal should be to get through flight school as quickly as possible... so you can come to back to the real Army and you can "unlearn" all of those things they teach you at Rucker!

Nope...Actually in 1982, I was working as a bartender at a disco in Blackpool. In Bermuda, I worked at the Robin Hood from about 1977-1981, the White Heron (in Warwick) from 1979-1986) and filled in occasionally at Cock and Feather on Front Street for Friday happy hours for about a year somewhere in there....

In my post, though, I was referring to working at the Robin Hood.....I loved the work, but I couldn't do it now. I don't have the patience....

Hmm, I think that's a bit harsh, but certainly disciplinary action must be taken and if any officers were involved they should be discharged. They will most likely be barred for promotion for a few years and face a good beasting from various levels. It is however one of these things soldiers do and is hard to explain the mentality of to non soldiers. Soldiers think differently and don't usualy see the negative things such activities have, they just see it as having a good laugh. They were most likey just off exercise and so were having the first free time in a while and jsut wanted to make the most of it soldier style.

Sounds like the infantry alright... infantry people would do that kind of thing haha. But on a serious note, not a good thing for an officer to do, sounds rather para like to me...

Wasn't a kind of 'grot' competition was it?
As in, when they get mullered and challenge each other to out gross/out lewd each other.
A popular one being, when the unfortunate female is not looking, quickly spiriting away her handbag and shitting in it, then quietly putting it back....
