I love it when the hose starts pissing fuel all over the place.

Oops Big grin

I've never really thought about how hard that be - Making minute changes in airspeed when you're flying so fast.

Oops

At the bare minimum.

Good video, I bet that was one embarrassed pilot upon landing.

I take it that was a Swedish AF C130 that was the tanker. Not easy controlling the plane in the propwash of 2 engines.

Its cold up there and jet fuel has a very high ignition point. If anything some of it may burn as it passes the exhaust but that is all.

Would you burn if you were covered in fuel? No, not without an ignition source. Jet fuel is actual quite hard to start burning without heating it up quite a bit.

Doesn't sound like a herk-no prop noise- and the Swedes don't fly AMX's.

The Italians with their KC767's maybe?

It could be worse though, There is a video of a Israeli CH-53, taking about the last 8 feet off it's boom with the rotor disk.

I'll try and find it.

Note the different aircraft sound then in the first video....this was filmed from the rear ramp of a herk.

The fuel would have to pass through the actual flame. Even then it would not spread to the other fuel. Only as it passes through the flame. Jet fuel only ignites in a compressed or heated environment.

Fuel is supposed to burn in a engine though, you might get a bit of surge.

Worst thing I have heard from some of the A-10 guys is that their receptical is directly in-line with the cockpit, and if they get any spillage it ends up right on the canopy, blurring it.

This can be fatal at night or under NVG's.

Just as a side note, F4U pilots in WWII had a simular problem with the tank forward of the cockpit leaking and then coating the windscreen in a light film of oil, that really obscured their vision at night and dusk also.

Their answer was to tape all the fuselage panel joints forward of the cockpit. That is where that pattern on lines forward of the cockpit on F4U's comes from.

Looks like the connection stayed on the offending aircraft. might have made it harder to see for landing.

I wonder if those booms are constructed with this in mind. I mean, the boom being lightly constructed so it is easliy chopped off. There was no appearant damage to the rotor blades and the craft looked controllable afterwards.

I'm fairly sure they would have 1 or 2 back up probes - and Im sure Ive seen a picture of 2 jet fighters refueling at the same time. Might be wrong though.

Other than that nice videos!

Possibly why most if not all fighters/tankers/bombers have their refueling hole behind the canopy, though on Air Force one, the receptical is in front of the windscreen. Anyone know if Air Force One's refueling capabilities have ever been needed or used? I'm pretty sure the E-4 (NAOC) has exercised its in-flight refueling capabilities before.

Translated literally it is: "piggish whore" but it is used in Italy like the English: "holly sh*t"

One of the most used Italian phrases. Big grin
