Catalan & Spanish (native)
English (good enough)
French (conversational, but I can't seem to place accents correctly)
Portuguese (after quite many years of going there every two months or so)
Russian (a 9-month course, enough to survive in a taxi/hotel/restaurant environtment, but little more).

Of course, knowing 4 romance languages means I can usually make myself understood in Italian and (a little bit less so) Romanian.

I speak, read and write English and German, although it's difficult to maintain a near-fluent level of German here in the USA. I'm attending a monthly German-speaking group to maintain my proficiency.

I used to speak French, mais j'ai oublie tout. It's been a very long time. I can still read French, though.

Just from living in the city, I've picked up some Spanish and Russian. I can say useful Russian phrases like "Yob tvoyu mat!"

Cool thread. Great procrastination fodder!  Smile

American English: native language
American Sign Language: highly fluent, was an interpreter for 15 years
Spanish: haltingly conversational but my Korean has cannibalized it somewhat
Korean: low intermediate level; I can read it better than I can speak it...
Latin: years of it in high school and college

I've also studied French and German, so I can figure signs and menus out in much of Western Europe.

I'm moving to Hong Kong in a few months and my boyfriend is Chinese, so once I finish grad skool that's next.

Latvian (native)
Swedish (90%)
German (60%)

American English and just enough of German and Greek to probably get me in trouble.

My wife is 2nd generation Greek-American and only remembers a few words. Her mother quit teaching her when she heard about Uncle George failing school because he didn't speek English very well.....Only Greek and she paniced and didn't want it to happen to her kids. Nowadays, you realize that children can pick up languages very well.
