I'm not concerned about the wind speeds - gusts of 80mph is nothing particularly spectacular for the South West of England, but a low pressure system of 945mb is very unusual. That will mean the sea is about half a meter higher than normal and right in time to coincide with the high spring tides, which already see many fishing villages along the coast having to get out the sandbags to prevent them from flooding. Could be bad news for the Somerset levels too if a storm surge gets pushed up the Bristol Channel by the high winds.

Exactly. A sari would be much better (especially with those hips) - something in a gold lamé.

Weather is fine here, not a cloud in the sky and I can even see some stars through the lovely London pollution. 60% chance of disruption for the south east for tomorrow though according to the Met Office.

It really doesn't take much at all to severly disrupt travel in the UK, 30 minutes of rain normally does the trick!

PSSSSH! Your weather is nothing....a little wind and rain. Try living in the mid-west/mid-south US during spring.

Hell, we just had a Tornado try to form over Oklahoma City (Downtown), sirens went off for a good 20 minutes, then the next day we get snow....our weather is crazy here.

All calm up in Belfast at the moment. Perhaps the calm before the storm. I don't believe it will hit Northern Ireland too badly. Having said that, as my bedroom is in the loft/attic, I can hear even the smallest of winds.

Um, am I missing something? Where's this 'major storm'. 150kmph so what, even for the UK that isn't unheard of, I think some journalists are bored. What Dan is saying is of far more significance.

I think that the government is playing it safe and does not want any surprise tomorrow so it warned everyone!  Smile Anyways, it has been raining here for couple of hours and according to http://www.xcweather.co.uk/ the winds are starting to picking up!

I hope that Exeter will be spared as well as the coastal areas. But I would like to take a train from Exeter to Plymouth now!  devil

Tis hitting now, a few family and friends have text me whilst at work from North Cornwall and Plymouth, very windy - gusting already to 70/80mph, but still nothing out of the ordinary for the moors and exposed North coast. The shapes of the trees down there tell a good story as to the direction and frequency of the winds!  silly

Doesn't seem too windy here, just raining but what's new. My front door appears to have opened overnight and it's banging against the doorbell which is rather annoying. However I'm not sure that's the wind... I might have just forgotten to close it properly after too much Heineken last night  confused

Its was very stormy last night here but around 4am it had passed . No damage at all. Southwest England seems to be the worst with 4500 without power but I guess its not that much considering what was warned. I think flooding is the main issue now. There are more high winds predicted for later this afternoon here but nothing severe.

Well the weather where I am is so amazing that I've had to take a photo to show here. I'm not quite sure how long it's going to stay like this but it's pretty scary.

http://www.tmfy.com/anet/UK_storms.JPG

The winds are blowing now at 3mph from the south and the birds are chirping , obviously in fear. It's now an artic 10c and I'm not sure if we'll cope. As you can see though, the trains are still running.

All the best to everyone.

It's raining, cold and very windy at the moment. Not much of a storm so far but the forecast said the it would come in two bands, the second would be much worse.

Some scaffolding has collapsed in Belfast resulting in a number of people being taken to hospital.

Here's the view from my flat in north west London:

Yeah same here in Exeter. It is rather windy here, with rain. Not heavy and not really steady. It comes and goes. I could not believe how much different it is in Exemouth and along the shore. It is totally different world out there.

Well I hope that nothing worse comes out of it.

Central Lancashire Storm Update

There was a brief shower of rain before and it's got a little colder I feel. Oh and the sun has now gone in. How tense! In the following photo you can see not just my swing set but the menacing "storm" closing in. However, Virgin Pendolino's are still running to Euston as you can see!  Wink

The weather got really bad a few hours ago, the wind picked up quite a lot and it started raining heavily with some thunder and lightning thrown in.

Still very windy but it's stopped raining for now. Cant really call it a storm but it looks bad on the south coast.

Please, no! Some eleven hours spent on trains (Crosscountry - no Virgins for me nowadays) at the weekend has yet to finish taking its toll...

The weather's not particularly remarkable here - it's a little windy, but no more. The weather in Oxford is rarely remarkable, however.
