Things That Will Be Remembered In 2000 Years?

Mon Mar 10, 2008 12:03 am

I just went to an exhibit on Pompeii and started wondering what modern-day disasters, or anything really, (+/- a couple centuries) will be remembered in 2000 years? What do you suppose will be in a museum in 4008 of current life?

Nothing. The world will be a barren wasteland from global warming long before that.

Al Gore.

If we don't end up as Al Gores hottest fantasy, i believe these things will be remembered:

Most wars
The technology explosion of our time
The "global warming" debate.
The cold war
The start of globalization
The space programs - The future wants to know how it all started
+
The things already at museums will probably still be there.

I would imagine 9/11 will come up-it is my opinion 9/11 will shape our world more than any other event during my lifetime. Other than that, I think the essentials have been covered.

Yes, this is very true.

The global warming debate, however..? Bullshit. The global freezing debate died within 30 years, and so will this one. Hopefully as fast as the other or even faster.

Aircraft will be remembered. The first atomic bomb will be remembered. The war in Iraq will still be going on   Soccer will still be remembered of course. Unlike football or baseball
World War I and World War II will live on, especially the latter, because of its being the only justifiable war in history.

That show on the History Channel that talked about what would happen if humans disappeared said that that Hoover Dam would be one of the last few remaining human structures, so I would imagine it would still be around. Also interesting to see which buildings will be kept for historical reasons (Empire State Building, etc.)
