Tue Mar 11, 2008 9:10 pm

and thought sod it, we need more emergency vehicles... So what do Ambulances look like in your area?

The County has Green Trucks while the city departments have Red trucks most of the time.

This is a terrible picture, but this is what they look like. Most of the hospitals in the area use MMR so when you get your bill, MMR charges $9000 for ambulance response plus your medical bill. Ouch.

And for real emergencies we have this

A lot of these at L.A. City Fire, who are some of the very best in the world:

We also see the requisite AMR and other private EMT services that are equally adept at riping off the injured/sick as they are at paying their people squat.

I'm a member at my local Volunteer Ambulance. We have two ambulances. Our newer bus is very similar to this one:

It is. My sister's boyfriend is a paramedic rapid response and he has an Audi A4, which is covertly lit, so with all the aerials on the roof and the "hidden" blue lights in the grills, people think he's an undercover cop when he's on the motorway... Most entertaining seeing everyone slowing down to 70  biggrin

Speaking of choppers, L.A. County fire uses Sikorsky Firehawks that are rigged to quickly change between water bombing and emergency response and evacuation.

Well, it's kind of weird, but I don't have any pics of MESI's rigs, but I do of course have them for the *ahem* less busy environment. So here are all the ambulances I work on or with:

Grants Fire & Rescue

The other ambulance provider, Mt. Taylor Ambulance, operates one rig similar to the one pictured above, but on a older Ford Econoline chassis and three or four of the non-cube style van type ambulances. Unfortunately, I have no photos of those.
I lift things up and put them down.

My local is Wellington Free Ambulance, which is the only free ambulance service in the southern world.

Chevrolet Silverardo in the new more safer colour scheme. Eight in service

http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l149/alpinej/wfa431.jpg
Mercedes Sprinter. 13 in service

http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l149/alpinej/wfarescue.jpg
Chevrolet Suburban (Rescue 1) in the old colour scheme and Mitsubishi Triton (Rescue 2)

http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l149/alpinej/wfaincident.jpg
Mitsubishi Pajero (Incident Command). Two in service

http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l149/alpinej/wfachopper.jpg
Operated by Life Flight. Life Flight also operate a Metroliner III.

Non-Emergency Ambulance is the Fiat Ducato (Patient Transport Service and Air Ambulance Transport), but does have full light bars and sirens, incase no other vehicles near by are free. Five Fiats are in service

True, when you have the vast distances and patchy population spread that we have here (outside of the major cities), the airwing is essential.
