Here's the Green Line in Boston.

Intercity:

The station at London, ON. God have I spent hours waiting there for the train to arrive from Toronto. VIA Rail will never be punctual on the Windsor - Quebec City corridor so long as they rely on the CN Line.

I guess I'll toss in a couple pictures of the Red Rocket -

I've used Amtrak from Anaheim, CA to downtown San Diego on several occasions. The Pacific Surfliner is a very cool train with comfortable seating - and then topped off by the outstanding Pacific coast scenery along the route. This trip takes 2 hours compared with 3 hours by car with moderate traffic.

For Sydney...the current trains you're likely to encounter;

Crappy old double decker suburban Sydney train, from about the 70's

interior of the crappy trains

next model the Tangara

inside a Tangara

The new Millenium sets - should have been in service for the Sydney Olympics...yeah right!!!

an intercity train - SYD to Blue Mountains, Newcastle, Wollongong

Quoting CXfirst (Reply 15):

Bit of a correction here. The Indian Pacific only runs between Perth and Sydney, via Adelaide. the train between Adelaide and Melbourne is The Overlander.

Quoting Melpax (Reply 20):

Are these the ones they sold off to some guy and now they're buying them back from him at twice the price? Or some price equally rediculous. Gotta love Aussie governments...  Wink

Alaska Railroad

My favorite train trip of all time was on the Alaska Railroad, Anchorage to Fairbanks. The scenery was amazing.
