" An eighth-grade honors student who was suspended for a day, barred from attending an honors dinner and stripped of his title as class vice president after he was caught with contraband candy in school will get his student council post back, school officials said.

Superintendent Reginald Mayo said in a statement late Wednesday that he and principal Eleanor Turner met with student Michael Sheridan's parents and that Turner decided to clear the boy's record and restore him to his post.

Michael was disciplined after he was caught buying a bag of Skittles from a classmate. The classmate's suspension also will be expunged, school officials said.

The New Haven school system banned candy sales in 2003 as part of a districtwide school wellness policy, school spokeswoman Catherine Sullivan-DeCarlo said."

The usual problem is that people go abroad and see other countries as a tourist does, not a resident. So all the crappy things in life get overlooked, and the only see the positives. I moved to Ireland a few years ago, the first week as a "Tourist with a work-contract in his pocket". As soon as you settle in and the "normal daily life" (work) begins, things, your view, perception changes very fast, especially in, back then, more or less rural North County Dublin

Last year I moved to Netherlands to work there - and it was basically exactly the same, except the fact that the dutch organisations like Belastingdienst etc. are more effective, which makes live easier if you just arrived in a new country and have to sort out a lot of stuff.

It's already been done. The Argentine Navy had a version of GTFO Airlines. They specialized in one way trips over the Atlantic with a couple of Shorts Skyvans.

I have a suggestion for you. I would probably use a C130 that was LAPES capable, that way GTFO Airlines wouldn't have to pay landing fees, because they didn't really touch down, doncha see.

Every American child that goes through the public system has been subject to that nonsense, but we don't see all of them bitching, now do we? You don't want to listen to those of us who have been around, experienced things much worse in life than going to Starbucks and having to wait in line or daddy not letting you take the SUV out on Friday night. The US like all countries has it's faults, but until you experience places and people much less pleasant than your 10 day trip to Europe, or Asia, you can't tell us how bad the US is. Go to Somalia, Iraq, Darfur, the slums of Brazil, and tell me how bad the US is and you want to move away. One day you'll grow up and realize that we do live in a great country with great people and places. There are 304 MILLION people living here, don't let the ridiculous ones that make the news taint your view. They are in every country.

Why? What makes the US a sacred cow exempt from complaining about? I understand nobody likes people who constantly complain, but people's fuses seem to be particularly short when it comes to complaining about their country. Perhaps the Mods should change the title of the thread while it may of happened in the US and if you spent enough time in this country you should know that the individual states have different rules and laws some understandable and some ridiculous however this has never made me want to leave.

Heres one from my area in Nevada. They areas where farmers cattle graze freely and some walk out in the Road/Highway to get to other pastures if you hit a cow by accident it is considered your fault even if the cow walked out last second and you can be fined etc... although I can sorta of understand it and most likely drivers wont hit cows as much as deer for example.

If you think the rules are crazy then beware because other countries have they're own Little quirks as much as the US some have more and some have less crazy rules. Just because you move away or not doesn't mean you get away from all the problems.

Perhaps there is more to the story than we now this doesn't mean I think its a fair rule or not.

True, but some stupid rules, if enforced, can exercise a profound influence on a child's psychology. I resigned from teaching in French-speaking Belgium because of idiotic rules that in the long run I considered produced docile, unimaginative sheeple. Sheeple with a good enough knowledge of history and biology, but sheeple nevertheless. That's for another thread, however...

The OP is apparently a guy who asks questions and can recognize bullshit, and I think it's a valuable asset for a teenager. I say let's give the guy a break - it's those all-American "hooray USA" kids I'd be more worried about...
