Hey all, my sister got engaged on Valentine's Day to a really nice guy. Anyway, she in the process of planning the wedding and we are having a full orchestra, including winds, and since I'm the music savvy person in the family, she wants ideas from me.

She DOES NOT want traditional "Here Comes the Bride" and the Wedding March after they kiss.

So, here's the list I've got so far while people are being seated. We are expecting about 500 at the wedding, so the orchestra is going to be playing for a long time before the ceremony starts. But something I'm REALLY looking for is something for trumpet. We want the trumpets to play as she enters the church and walks down the aisle. I have two trumpet pieces listed, but if any of you can come up with anything more interesting full of pomp and circumstance, I'd be forever grateful.

There's quite a bit of broadway stuff from Les Miserables and Miss
Saigon that could be played only with strings as well that you might
like. You might try listening to Elton John and Time Rice's "AIDA"

Rachmaninov

"Somewhere in Time" It has that 18th Variation in it, plus some other
beautiful Rachmaninov pieces. I can only find it on piano on youtube,
but you'll get the idea...

Got a few opinion on those, so here it is :

Bach - Brandenburg Concerto No. 5 Movement 1 - Allegro : mmmm. a bit too much "easy music" imo

Purcell - Trumpet Tune : very nice, and not that common in weddings.

Vivaldi - Four Seasons - "Spring" : I would avoid it if you don't want the wedding to sound like a call waiting tune "your call is important to us..."

Bach - Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring : nice for the meditative/quiet parts of the ceremony, but a tad overheard.

Tchaikovsky - "Waltz of the Flowers" : for the ceremony, big no, for the bal, big yes.
