Wow, I never knew that gas stations had those things. I have seen the "In case of fire, push button" things before but I guess I just thought it was a way to notify the store (or possibly 911 directly) that there was a fire. I did not know it would set off a fire suppresion system.

I don't think it does do that at most stations... I've been at a gas station when someone pushed the fire button (no i didn't do it, it was some little brat running around while dad bought gas, dad had a bit of explaining to do when the PD showed up.), and a loud alarm goes off warning people to clear the area, red lights on the pumps light up, and the pumps switch off totally... no suspression system though...
