Ever Been "Rick Rolled" By Rick Astley?

Fri Jul 18, 2008 6:59 pm

For those of you who don't know, there has been a recent gag trend on the internet involving Rick Astley's (two-hit wonder) 1987 smash hit "Never Gonna Give you Up" video.

Big version: Width: 320 Height: 240 File size: 7kb

Apparently this has been quickly becoming an internet and media phenomonon. When someone gets
"Rick Rolled" a user has to send the Rick Astley video in a link describing the link as something completely different. As a result, the other user clicks on it and thus become "Rick Rolled."

http://youtube.com/watch?v=Yu_moia-oVI

If you clicked on this, I have successfully "rick rolled" you.

I did a search and a whole page comes up on wikipedia regarding the "Rick Roll." It is a very interesting read.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rickroll

So have you ever been "rick rolled?" Personally I love the song, and have his album "Whenever you need somebody" on vinyl. Discuss...

I didn't know what Rick Rolling was until it happened to my girlfriend and I when we were out the other night. We were sharing a nice moment at dinner or something and the song started playing.

Radio station I listen to runs a blog and posts video gafs and what not. Many times the set up paragraph leads you to believe you are about to view something great, but they are just setting you up for a good Rick Rolling.

I was one of many who got Rick Rolled by YouTube on April Fools Day. Not too long after that, someone pulled a Rick Roll here in Non-Av. It was horrible, as you had to keep clicking pop up boxes that had the lyrics.

That looks so cool!

When his hits were new back in 1987, I couldn't stand it. I was hardcore in to metal at the time.

Now I own that record and I love his music.  Cool
At first I bought it as a joke because it was only 10 cents in the bargain bin and the LP had never been opened.
Then it grew on me.

Who would put that voice with that face? How did a guy who looks like a cross between the cover of Mad Magazine and Beaver Cleaver pump out chords like this? The guy had baby-face looks and a voice fit for a stadium.

That is what everyone was saying back in 1987.
It was almost comical seeing this short scrawny British guy sing with so much soul.

I had got Rickrolled before the media even picked up on it. Anyone that reads Fark has probably been Rickrolled a long time ago.

I think he's got a great voice. I remember hearing his music when I was a kid.

All these years, and I had no idea he was British. Why do so many British singers lose their accent when they are singing?

Hell yeah, I've been Rick Rolled! In fact, I was on a road trip with him earlier this month - he sure knows how to avoid potholes at 120 kph in the middle of the night, but I warn you, never let him touch your fridge or he might just break it!

Seems like a lot play up their accent. Especially the 1980s modern rock bands.
Tears For Fears, Simple Minds, Orchestral Maneuvers In The Dark (OMD), General Public, Duran Duran just to name a few.
Then of course theres that fake British band Green Day.  duck

Let's not forget Rick's brother John Astley.
I started a thread about this a few years ago.

This is just wrong.  Sad

Here is a video clip.

By Rick Astley himself? No.

It would be really funny to be Rick Rolled by the man in person, especially if the bartender showed up to do the backflip.

I should probably be embarrassed that I like the song, though it gets tedious after 2 minutes or so.

Wow I overpaid. I got it for a buck. The LP was still in great shape though.

This is nothing compared to The Killers...I think they're from Ohio, but they try to sound like a British new wave band. They are sometimes quite convincng — if I had heard some of their songs in the 80s, I think they would have blended right in.
