When I used to fly to
JAX from
ATL and back every other week on a full fare
DL ticket (paid for by my clients), I would intentionally pick the overbooked flights usually the 5:00
PM Friday return (a lot of people either work in
ATL and live in Jax or vice versa and the flights are jammed packed Friday afternoons). The full fare would allow the ticket to be issued every time.
I would then show up at the airport an hour early for the Friday
JAX to
ATL return, offer to give up my seat for a confirmed rebooking on a flight two (sometimes 3) hours later and get a free ticket anywhere
DL flew (I think it was limted to domestic travel) plus a meal voucher and usually an upgrade to F (though the Plat Medallion status pretty much guaranteed this anyway). Over three years I racked up something like 40 tickets this way. The gig ended when
DL switched from free tickets to Delta dollars.
Hypocrisy. It's the new black for liberals.
