Fastest Max Speed Showing On GPS

Wed Aug 13, 2008 6:45 pm

I was just reading through another thread regarding the comparison of GPS recorded speeds and that on the speedometer of a car.

Currently my GPS is showing that my Max speed reached is 817km/h (507mph)....however I did cheat a little and had my GPS with me on a recent flight to Austin.

I was curious as to who would have the highest "maximum" speed recorded currently on their GPS and how it was obtained (legally of course  Wink ).

Cheers,
Alan

We had ours displaying max of 166 on a recent trip from Spokane to Seattle in the car, not really sure what went wrong there though

Yours must have been broken at the weekend then, either that or your speedo was displaying your speed in kph  Smile

Sure, sure....mind you, with all those speed cameras in the UK i'm surprised that anyone goes over the limit anymore.

I was actually let off by the boys in blue (actually flourescent yellow) for going significantly over a 30mph limit on my last trip home to Scotland.

742 MPH. I was flying EWR-LHR on a BA 772 with a REALLY stiff tailwind. The flight was 4 hours, 45 minutes.

My Garmin 260W displayed a max speed of 860km/h. Of course, this was obviously attained onboard an aircraft (an AC A320 to be exact).  airplane  I love using my GPS onboard so I can see where we are flying. I try to be discreet since it probably is "not permitted". I have no worries that my plane will drop out of the sky. LOL
If you flew today, thank a Flight Dispatcher!

95mph, but this was due to a glitch somewhere in the GPS's software. I was doing 75mph at the time, happened to look at my GPS which was reading 75, then it jumped to 95 for a second or two, then back down to 75mph.
I lift things up and put them down.

Think the highest my satnav has recorded is round about 110mph

I would like to point out that this was at night on the motorway and it was dead, and I was in a hurry

I'm not sure if it was a GPS reading or an INS reading, but a person who I knew online who flew 747-200s for NWA one time got a ground-speed that amounted to around ~730 mph due to a rather large tailwind (I think they were also trying to make up time due to a late departure -- not sure 'bout that part, though)

That's about 635 kts. I wouldn't have thought a spectacular tailwind was required.

Ours show the max being 105mph. Turns out that while my family was driving down to Kansas City to bug me, my dad decided to really put the pedal to the metal and pass the guys pushing 90. My mom was asleep, so he took the liberty to do so Big grin

My GPS is unlikely to ever pass 85mph as I have a truck and I drive like an old man.

I once recorded myself snow skiing at 54.5mph on a GPS (and FWIW a friend overtook me at another 10mph or so). That felt pretty fast.

The Navi in the Audi does not show speeds. But the speedometer does.

Last Saturday. 158mph

I can drive faster than you
