Male Users - Are You Comfortable Wearing Pink?

Sun Aug 24, 2008 6:23 pm

I was wondering, are there any male users here who are comfortable wearing pink?

I personally don't have a problem with it. I wore a pink shirt on the second formal night on the Carnival Pride (Spirit Class ship) cruise to the Mexican Riviera.

Also, please, this is NOT a thread to talk about your sexual orientation. This is only to know if you are comfortable wearing pink.

Pink ties are alright but anything else pink would be inappropriate for me.

I have only one male friend that I consider can pull off wearing pink.

Sure. Wore a pink shirt and burgundy tie to my wedding. Don't think I own a pink shirt today but if there is a reason for that it has nothing to do with anything but what the stores carry.

Not that comfortable wearing shorts even though I have very muscular legs. Just don't think men look good in shorts. IDK - personal taste I guess.

I wear pink all the time. I think you need a certain skin tone to really pull it off correctly....ie pasty white dudes not so much

Yep I often wear a pink shirt with a blue pin striped suit.

I would not wear a pink jumper or pink T shirt , I just dont like them.

There are also many types of pink also.

On some game shows, I have seen Richard Karn, John O'Hurley, and Alex Trebek wearing pink. I guess they are comfortable with it.

I have a couple of light pink/white striped dress shirts, as well as two light pink polo shirts. Light pink is fine for males, dark pink or a shocking pink is iffy at best.

I agree. My complexion is a bit darker than the average person of Northern European/Scandinavian ancestry and I tan easily, so I think I can pull off pink just fine.

On further reflection, I'd have to say that my Army khaki uniform was almost pink.

Yes, I do date back to khaki class-B uniforms, even long sleeve with tucked-in tie.

My thoughts exactly. I also believe body build might play a part in this as well. My body and skin tone do not suit me for wearing pink. So its not that I don't want to wear pink, I can't, I just don't look good in it.

I'm OK with pink. Of course, it all depends on what goes with it. I'm no fashionista, but anything in clothing relies on how all the elements go together.

Pink reminds me too much of the taste of a 7 year old girl. Not for me.

Similar, I don't wear shorts, especially not at work. Maybe at the beach, but that's it.

I'm not comfortable wearing it. Not because i'm straight (because i'm not), It's down to the fact it just isn't a masculine colour. And I identify with the punk subculture  Silly

Non of my work shirts have pink in them and any of my other clothes have don't pink in them.

A family friend who works for one of the local rail franchises wears pink shirts as part of his uniform and hates the colour.

Well, shorts would have been wildly inappropriate just about anywhere I ever worked - especially doing a walkaround in Toronto in January.

Sometimes we go to the outdoor concerts down on an island in the Truckee River and I will wear shorts and sandals. My wife says it is my liberal disguise. I can pass among them unnoticed.

I'm just not really comfortable wearing them, even casually. I would never in a thousand years leave the house in sweats! I completely agree with the comedian (Bill Maher?) who said they are a statement that says "I refuse to even try."

I have lots of pink in my wardrobe. Not simply because I think it's ok because I'm gay, i just think it's a really nice colour.
And my pinks vary too
I have black Calvin Klein boxers with an electric pink band
and some pants from primark that have a very light pink outline  Smile

Not to mention all the t-shirts that I have that are pink, loads of different shades of pink too  Smile
Some of which don't suit me anymore, some of which still do

It's all down to personal choice tbh  Smile

JG  Yeah sure
First Class passengers are my favourites. They can't get any further forward without an ATPL.

Well, Stade Francais don't have a problem with it, and they don't come more masculine than rugby players:

As regards ordinary clothing, I think the key lies in the shade of pink and the garment. A very light pink shirt is perfectly acceptable for anyone to wear, and has been for many years. It wouldn't raise the hair on an eyebrow. On the other hand, a vivid pink pair of jeans would be a no-no, apart from on the most flamboyant homosexual.

Actually, yes they do. Masculine, or more to the point, machismo is defined culture by culture. I know lots of people who would think that anyone who (1) plays team sports including football (2) shares locker rooms with other guys (3) has a frivolous occupation, is something less than manly. It doesn't matter that rugby requires athleticism - so does ballet. I know some who are just Neanderthal enough not to even know what color their shirt is without looking - and it won't be more than two colors, neither of them pink.

Picture George C. Scott as General Harlan Bache in Taps and his "pink shirt with an alligator on the tit" speech.

Don't think I currently own any pink clothes, but at school there I almost always have both a pink highlighter and a fuchsia pen (yes, it's fuchsia. Zip Air painted their aircraft "fuchsia", and it's an official zip pen) in the front pocket of my coveralls. Purely because they happened to be first pen and first highlighter I came across when I was looking for a pen and highlighter for my coveralls way back when, nothing more nothing less. I make up for it though, probably 80% of my other school supplies are blue.

well, concerning shorts, for the older generation (and I'm still partly influenced by it, since, as a boy, my mother made me wear Bavarian leather shorts, she found them very practical, since they are virtually indestructible.), shorts were boy's clothes (even in winter, my father told me about having worn shorts with long woolen stockings beneath them in winter. He hated the scratchy things, but they were cheap since they were handknitted by his grandma, while long trousers had to be bought in a shop). Only when you reached puberty you were allowed to wear long trousers, as a sign that you now had entered the adult's world.

I respect the old British Army khaki shorts, as worn by the 8th Army in northern Africa in WW2, and if I'm in a rural region of the Philippines, I adapt to local customs and wear shorts in the village or rice paddies, since everybody there wears shorts.

If you are a southern gentleman, then you know that we invented the Pink Polo Shirt with Khaki pants and Deck Shoes as summer wear.

Pink on men is very Southern, and it's often seen around here. I own a few pink Polo Shirts and some pink dress shirts with pink ties as well.

Nothing wrong with it, don't even see why it is "topic-worthy"

Pink is one of my favorite colors to wear, I love to wear pink button down shirts when I go to night clubs.

As a matter a fact all the swimming suits I own are pink with some other light color (blue, green, etc)

I can only wear it while I'm with a big crowd wearing it. Otherwise it feels awkward to me. I'm Scandinavian and while I'm getting one helluva tan working outside all the time, it just does not work with my skin tone. It's simply a guy thing all things said and done that makes wearing pink seem awkward. I guess homosexuals are more tolerable?
