Summer Vacation:

Long Island: An uninterrupted 80-mile stretch of contrasting coastlines gives Long Island its name and a distinct landscape. While soft beaches greet the water on the west coast, rocky cliffs rise from the shore on the east. That said, words are inadequate. |

Nassau, capital city of The Islands of The Bahamas, resides on New Providence Island, neighbor to Paradise Island. This island pair maintains a distinct blend of international glamour and tropical ease, giving travelers freedom to do everything or nothing at all. |

A lone tattered Bahamian flag waves,no doubt a reflection of the poor state of the Caribbean island nation. Despite rampant ignorance and lack of vision, Bahamians are fluid with national pride.

Greetings from da hood. A real life labyrinth of misery, desolation and trigger-crazy marginalized men.
Here, a middle-aged man drinks his life away, hoping to escape the troubles around him.

Locals anxiously awaiting their luggage to come on the belt.

What is this architecture called? It stands out an awful lot in The Bahamas.

Sandyport is seen again.

Nassau's most visited attraction is the Queen's Staircase. Climb the 65 steps, recently renovated, carved out of solid limestones by slaves in the late 18th century, between 1793 and 1794. It is reported that slaves were forced to cut through rocks with axes and other sharp hand tools.
This 102 foot staircase was named in honour of the 65 years of Queen's Victoria's reign. Construction of this monument is still regarded as remarkable. For practical purposes, the staircase provides a shorter route to and from Bennet's Hill.

Nassau is a major terminus for cruise ships, and it is not uncommon to see 3-4 cruise ships lined up on the pier.

The look of the urban Caribbean.

After The Bahamas gained independence from the UK in 1973, a huge wave of behemoth, monotonous structures unique to 70's architecture were built.

Estates out West.

The uber-glam, 5-star resort that is Atlantis is pictured.
A bustling fantasy world -- part water park, entertainment complex, megaresort, and beach oasis -- this is by far the biggest and boldest resort in the country. The overriding theme here is water -- for swimming, snorkeling, and observing marine life, as well as for mood and effect, in lagoons, caves, waterfalls, and several walk-through aquariums (touted as the largest artificial marine habitat in the world). The public areas are lavish, with fountains, glass sculptures, and gleaming shopping arcades. Numerous sporting activities are available, and there is plenty of nightlife on the premises; the casino, ringed by restaurants, is the largest in the Bahamas and the Caribbean. The most expensive rooms are in the glamorous, high-rise Royal Towers. In high season (winter) expect long lines at restaurants. Atlantis opened the 600-room all-suites sister resort, the Cove Atlantis, in March 2007, complete with private adult and family pools and lavish cabanas. The suites range from over 650 square feet to the 4,000-square-foot Penthouse Suite which will start at $15,000 per night.
