Matt Damon Rips Sarah Palin

Wed Sep 10, 2008 5:25 pm

"I Really need to know if she thinks dinosaurs were here 4000 years ago, thats really important, she's going to have the nuclear codes" LOL!

"Soccer mom staring down Putin one day, using what she learnt at the hockey rink.."

For a good laugh  Smile But the concept of someone like Palin as future POTUS is scary as hell.

Nope. Not biting on that. Damon's comments of ignorance speak for themselves. Someone who memorizes words and is in Hollywood and spews off is more or less a validator that the left is terrified.

I like Damon as an actor, but these people should just shut up already.

Besides, we're going to have plenty of info on her policy views beginning this week.

Here is the best comparison I can think of.

Sarah Palin as POTUS = 14 Year old kid at the controls of a limping 747 with 2 years experience on the first version of Microsoft Flight Simulator.

I Will be honest.. I do not like McCain but the man know what he is doing and he is not a soccer mom out to prove something.

BTW, Matt Damon is a very intelligent guy, and his opinion is very educated. I would not take him with a grain of salt as one would with say Jennifer Lopez or Britney Spears.

Thank God for Matt Damon.....and I was convinced Palin was the right person for the job. You know, I trust actors to tell me how to think, to tell me what is and what is not cool, to tell me what to and what not to buy....they are basically my entire example for how to live my life.
Matt is an actor, and Matt does not like Palin, therefore I do not like Palin.

And Obama is any better?

As much as people would like to put Palin down, what special knowledge or experience does Obama have? He is merely a first term junior Senator of his state and quite green of any meaningfull experience also. I'm actually quite disappointed with the Democratic Party for falling for nothing but a pretty face and good speaker. Even losers of the past like Kerry and Gore have much more under their belts.

So I much rather have Palin who's running for the VP spot by tragedy end up in the POTUS spot, then Obama who is directly seeking the POTUS spot. He might be a good talker, but he is no way ready to lead America.

Matt Damon graduated from Harvard. Just because he's famous doesn't mean he doesn't have the right to voice an opinion, just as you have an opinion. It only means that his opinion gets more attention than yours. Now let's see... where did Sarah Palin graduate from? So many schools, I can't keep track.

Matt Damon actually makes a number of good points throughout the whole video in addition to the dinosaurs/nuclear-code comment.

Of course ultimately nobody will listen to this and will instead assassinate his character, not because he's wrong, but because he's dead on right.

Anyhow - is it any surprise that Matt Damon, Oprah or 100 other celebritires endorse Obama?

After all majority of the entertainment industry is heavily Democratic.

Personally and especially since living here in LA and interacting with folks in the industry regularly, their opinions are very much meaningless to me as many are as far from reality in America as one can get.

Let them talk up Obama or anyone they wish, however the elections are not decided in Hollywood, but in the heartlands of America where people live that reality.

While I am not a big Obama supporter, he does have more relevant and more time experience necessary to do the job.

Although the notion of Obama sitting in a Fisher Price airplane would be funny  Smile Anyone want to take the time on Photoshop? lol.

Some Relevance.

Obama taught constitutional law for 12 years at the university of Chicago

Palin got a BS from Idaho while helping her family fishing business and working part time as a sports reporter.

Obama was elected to the Illinois Senate and there served a term from 1996 - 2004, then being elected to the US Senate again from 2004 - Onwards.

Palin was mayor of Wasilla, Alaska, population a startling 7000 people from 1996 - 2002. Then she was elected as Governor to the State of Alaska with a whopping population that is smaller then the combined children in the elementary schools of New York State.

THERE IS NO COMPARISON HERE IN TERMS OF EXPERIENCE...... PALIN IS A BABY.

JCS Communication ..Mr. President ... we have incoming targets over eastern Europe . ABM in Poland has intercepted 2 and is tracking additional on heading to be determined. President Obama ..." uh ... can I vote " Present" ?

Of course , I am just playing around , but they need to be careful going with the experience argument on Palin. It just raises the issue with their Candidate ..

If Sen Obama is elected President , I have no doubt that he will be fully trained and very capable of making the decision if a retaliatory strike is ever required. Damon needs to STFU about right now and .. make another bad movie or something.

Palin has previously called the Iraq invasion "the will of god" — exactly like Bush himself. That is the most worrying aspect of her candidacy.

This is exactly the sentiment which is used by dictators and absolute monarchs to put themselves above the law and any human criticism or political oversight.

It has absolutely no place in any executive position, much less in the White House!

Yet another US government which sees itself above the law and operates on the basis of religious delusions? How many more catastrophies are the american voters ready for at this point?

Religious nutcases in Pakistan and in Teheran are bad enough — with even more religious nutcases in the White House this will become a absolute nightmare!

I don't care one way or the other - because they're all just as bad as each other. But this bit from the LA Times cracked me up!

"The untidiness of her updo has a can-do spirit that says, 'I have more important things to do than worry about my hair, so I just twirled it into this clip so I could get to the real business of governing and shooting caribou and having babies and taking them to hockey practice."

Uhhh...why not? Should I debate the rhetorical jokes he makes or the "you knows" because I'm not finding any substance in the 1 minute and 42 seconds there? Regardless, my point is why should anyone care what an actor thinks? I've long made up my decision between McCain and Obama (and HRC at the time), and not a single celebrity was involved in that decision. And when I see Madonna in concert, her (immature, uneducated) comparison of McCain and Hitler is not going to make a difference either.

Why should anyone care what a regional jet dispatcher, and airline mechanic, a "long term strategerist" or an IP lawyer thinks?

What makes actors so special that they should be set aside, but these other occupations so special that you'll engage in argument with them?

They have a public platform that a regional jet dispatcher does not. They drop some pearl of wisdom and then whine "character assassination" when anyone questions them.

Precisely because he CAN engage in argument with the others. How often you see a hollywood star here making a political statement, or anywhere where they might have to back up their opinions?

Anyway, the ad hominem attacks by ignorant people ignoring what they don't want to hear about her are already old and hardly worth responding.

Pretty good actor? I recall a gipper and chimpanzee in his filmography, but not much else.

Pretty good president? You must be joking. Contra alone would knock him out of the box, and this BS that he destroyed the evil communist empire is just that, BS. He just happened to be in the office when it crumbled.

As for Damon's views on Palin, who cares. I don't need a Hollywood star to validate my opinions on anything. It is worrisome that so many would be swayed by their film idol, though.

Every time someone from the entertainment industry opens their mouth and it makes the airwaves, it invariable is laughable and probably incorrect. I think the smart one keep their opinions to themselves OR--and here's a novel idea--they don't mention it in public any chance they get.

Republican, democrat....you gotta get out of this death spiral to understand where I am coming from. Although I am fairly ULTRA-conservative and olde-fashioned, could really care less about cheap ass talk from politicians, they all lie (either by choice or by necessity). I am using gut instinct and fond memories of my own hockey mom. My instincts have never done me wrong.

Camille Paglia, a liberal democrat, sums it up for me, regarding Sarah Palin, in her latest.....

If people could see past partisanship for a moment, they just might notice what a jewel we have in Mrs. Palin.

Which is exactly my point. If you honestly believe that Palin would make a better president than Obama considering his education, intelligence, worldview, grasp of domestic and global issues, and skills set, then I have no idea what criteria you're using or you think is necessary to make such an evaluation and whatever it is, I believe it's inadequate.

"Soccer mom staring down Putin one day, using what she learnt at the hockey rink.."

I would take her over Obama in that situation any day of the week.

But the concept of someone like Palin as future POTUS is scary as hell.

Fortunately for this country the concept of Obama is even more scarier. Which is why the GOP will win.

Jeez what does that mean? I know a guy who graduated from Princeton who is flat broke and nowhere in life. So?

Quoting MaverickM11 (Reply 31):
He was also governor for eight years before even running for President....something I'd highly recommend to one of the Presidential candidates that is light on experience

Nahh all you need is a couple of news networks to get behind you and have Oprah endorse you and viola! Your qualified to be president.

Do you have any proof of this? Where has she said she believes that religion should have a say in government, and vice versa?

The disastrous presidency of a guy is just winding down who invaded another country because he "heard the voice of god".

And Palin apparently agrees with him that it was "the will of god".

Dangerous religious nutcases like these are the absolute last thing the world — and the USA — need today.

What does it mean?? What isn't clear to you? The point is simple - despite being an actor, Damon is an American citizen with an excellent education and work resume (unlike the people you keep company with, evidently). Just because he's famous doesn't negate his right to express an opinion, nor render that opinion invalid.

If people could see past partisanship for a moment, they just might notice what a jewel we have in Mrs. Palin

I can't see how it's possible when her positions are so extreme. If you're ultra-conservative, she's a gem. If you're liberal or moderate (truly moderate) than she's a nightmare.

I keep hearing people claim they are moderates but that they love Palin. She's just so "down to earth." That is just a silly reason to vote for a party's candidate. If you agree with her politics, fine. Just call it what it is.

If you support Palin: You don't mind that she raised taxes, participated in deficit spending, was an active participant in the earmark game, has some ethics investigations ongoing, has a husband who was a member of a group wanting Alaska to secede from the union (unless this has been disproven), showed a keen interest in banning library books, is pro-life even in the case of rape and incest, and has almost no international travel (let alone experience), and has a really questionable academic record for someone to end up in such a position.

If all of that is overcome by "gut feel" and "she's a soccer mom!" sentiment then I really pity the state of our nation even more than I did a few months ago.

If you honestly believe that Palin would make a better president than Obama considering his education, intelligence, worldview, grasp of domestic and global issues, and skills set,

And what do you think Sarah Palin would be doing the entire time, between inauguration and whenever she would take the top job in the event of McCain's passing? Sitting in a White House closet in suspended animation....waiting for the right moment? She'd be learning.....ON-THE-JOB experience, not sitting in a bunker issuing stand down orders to the Air Force like some VPs we know.

Are you saying she, and women in general, are not capable of learning these esoteric public service tasks? Is that what you are getting at?

From what I can tell you guys dont really have a dog in this fight.

However I can assure you all, that the voters of the United States will on November 4th choose the persons which best represents their values and views and whom they feel can best lead the country -- no matter how distasteful or unappealing such decision might be to foreigners.
