Who Do You Currently Work For?

Thu Oct 02, 2008 7:01 am

Was just thinking about work today and my ungodly schedule this week and came to wonder what you guys do nowadays. I work for Starbucks full time as well as go to college full time. Hard balancing the two, but for a college job, Starbucks is great. Not plan on staying there after graduation of course. (Unless climbing up the management ladder will be in the works.)

So where is it that you guys and gals work?

I currently work as a Dispatcher for a business jet operator and love my job. What would make me happier than I am now is to work in airport operations.

Do you work in a brewery? That must have been a real drag when InBev closed the Toronto plant. I am only five hours away and a lot of people around here drink LaBatt blue and they have no idea that it doesn't still come from Toronto. Has the brewery closure hurt sales in Toronto? I know that when Stroh left Detroit in 1985 that sales dropped off in the area. Most people around here think Stroh went out of business in 85, but they hung on until 1999. Their corporate headquarters was still in Detroit, but few people actually knew about it. A lot of People think that Pabst is still in Milwaukee even though they operate no breweries and have their offices in suburban Chicago.

No, I work for the outfit called Zone Brewery Support and I'm in contact with all breweries owned by Labatt. Actually, I visit all of them at least twice a year.

I'd say that Blue exported to Michigan was always brewed in London. Beer from Toronto would be rather exported to New York, as it is now from Hamilton.
Working on Toronto's closure was a sad job. It was a very nice plant with excellent people working there. Many of them are now in different places within the company. The plant in Toronto had one big problem - no space to expand.

Quoting Falstaff (Reply 5):

AFAIK no. Our bestseller in GTA isn't Blue anyway. It's Budweiser, Alexander Keith's and now the Lakeport family.

They're still alive and well. As a matter of fact, we spent a lot of our time (and money) to bring the brewery up to speed. However, after the merger all bets are off.

Good to hear from you buddy. It has been awhile. How is Utah treating you?

I myself am currently finishing my last year of college in Michigan but work during Summer and Winter breaks back home in California and even I get e-mailed jobs from my work to do. I work for Thomas Products Inc. out of Fresno, CA. We are owned by Land O' Lakes and work in the Animal Nutrition buisness. We make vitamin and mineral pre-mixes for: dairy cattle, beef cattle, replacement heiffers, calfs, horses, sheep, broilers, poultry, dogs & cats (Purina and Diamond Pet Foods), birds, insects, fish, swine, and even for major places such as San Diego Zoo, San Diego Wild Animal Park, and Sea World. We ship all over the United Staets and internationally to Canada, Mexico, Hondurus, Costa Rica, and Phillippeans.

I work in Quality Assurance and Formulations while I am there. While I am here in Michigan, I draw up designs for new additions when they would like them or bring up to date previous drawings on CAD.

I work for a General Contractor in the Toronto area. My duties include estimating, tenders, getting jobs to tender, Purchase Order and Contract awards and a bunch of other paper pushing activities. We build mainly schools but we recently landed a Long Term Care facility which is way over budget and i'm trying to get the costs down as the Consultants sit on their hands and let others (me and my sub-contractors) fix their "issues"....sorry, i'm a wee bit bitter about this.  Wink
It's a good job, pay could be better, but it almost pays the bills.

Believe what you want. It is all about time management. This the lightest course-load I've taken in about a year and half because it is my last semester, Oh and I have a 4.0, It's possible to do it all if you prioritize. I have a guaranteed 11 consecutive days off every month from my flying job. I usually get more because we don't get used on all of our reserve days. Plenty of time to pick up a couple of substitute teaching days or work a blood drive for the ARC. Layovers and weekends give me lots of time to write papers and study.

I have had to cut back a bit on my social life. Dating doesn't fit super well into my life right now. Though I have plenty of fun with my friends/co-workers on layovers.

I work for Pima County, Arizona as a Deputy Clerk in the Superior Court. I work in the Civil Department, but also worked a stint in Legal Records when the Civil Department unit that I was previously assigned to was eliminated. Legal Records was not enjoyable for me, so I got out of there the first chance I got.

Lol so true...I'm an electronics importer if you believe my profile - mainly because I had to self-censor so much with my previous profile when I got questions about some posts I made about the airline I work for. Not even sure what electronics importing would consist of in landlocked Orlando - got the idea off of Seinfeld though!

Well, providing you don't make inflamatory and derogatory comments about the company you work for, there should be no problem. Unless of course you work for a paranoid manager/supervisor! Big grin

I currently work for Virgin Atlantic in their Operations centre as a Maintrol Planner. Interesting, sometimes hectic and always fun.

And, with my wife also working for the company it's quite a family thing.

RE: Who Do You Currently Work For?

I work for Thomas Cook Holiday Division, as Overseas Administration Support. I'm currently in Cyprus, back home for Christmas, then off to Tenerife for the first 4 months of next year. I'm waiting to find out where I am going to work next summer. I should find out over the next couple of days.

Tell me about it. Ugh I have two 20 page research papers to write.

Wow. My papers are not quite as long but do have a few to give 3,000 words on one scripture though from the Bible. Those can be very tough. I'll be happy when I dont have to write papers anymore as assignments and can just apply what I learned to my life.

I'm currently taking a semester off from GSU because I want a little time to live, and re-evaluate what I want to spend my time in college studying. I worked for Toyota/Denso in a plant making AC Compressors. I worked on the assembly line, and it was one of the coolest jobs I've had. I currently work for Intuit (think Quicken, Turbotax, Quickbooks) as a software specialist. Initially I thought it'd be boring, but I'm coming to find that I'm not too shabby at sales, and accounting is something that comes strangely naturally for me.

So are you guys hard-asses? My RA knocked on my door just once last year because I had people over and we were being too loud. That he didn't come over during the countless other times me and my friends were being nuisances is nothing short of a miracle

We try to raise the Wife Acceptance Factor of good speakers to never before achieved levels.

That's a futile effort. If the wife is not properly trained, the WAF hits zero anytime the sound level goes above whisper. The only help is to have the missus audio-trained. Big grin Believe me, I know what I'm talking about. I'm married for 20 years now and interested in audio for over 30...
