Affordable Food Options at Disneys Resort?

Sat Oct 25, 2008 9:22 pm

Good evening fellow members,

I was just going over my itinerary for my leadership conference located at Disney's Coronado Springs resort (Nov 22-25) and noticed that dinner is not provided. I know I will have at least one evening to myself as our group is going to Disney world for food but not sure where to go to get affordable prices on my own. Here are my limitations:

Transportation is limited to Disney transit buses or taxi's (last resort as they are expensive) as we are not to drive our colleges vans
Curfew is at 10

What do you all suggest for cheap yet good food around Disney world.

Affordable Food Options at Disneys Resort?

I was there in May, and really your only option may be to get one of their meal plans. However, I'm not sure how much, if any, of a savings, one will provide. Your limited means of transportation almost guarantees you will take it up the rear price wise.

When we were there, we stayed at the Sheraton Vistana just outside Disneyworld and there were plenty of well priced restaurants throughout the vicinity. And I'm almost positive Disney busses went out as far as S Apopka Vineland Road / SR 535 which is where most restaurants are located. Even then, it's a short taxi ride, however that likely offsets the savings of eating outside of Disney.

BTW, your thread title seems a bit mis-leading, as if there is some sort of Disney problem.

Maybe you could take the shuttle bus to Downtown Disney. It should run from your resort on a regular basis. Downtown Disney had everything from McDonalds to full service restaurants.

At the Disney price of course... which from my understanding is what Hunter is looking to avoid.

Yes you are right mr. jetsgo.

Nearly everything is paid for on this trip (thank goodness). Does anyone know of a bus route map for disney?

i guess i didnt make my question clear. why not join the group you are going with? As much as this conference is about leadership, spending time with your colleagues is extremely important on these trips. They are also team building exercises and you may be looked upon as an outsider if you decide to venture off on your own for dinner. If price is a concern, you always have the option of bringing something from home that you can eat cold, or warm up somewhere and just eat something small at the restaurant.

Yes, although this info is rather dated (May 2007) a picture I took says that there is rather lofty prices for everything from a Bic Mac meal ($5.99) to $8.49 for the Chicken Club meal. Inflation not withstanding, MCOflyer that place looks to be one of your cheapest bets. Good luck at the leadership conference!

Scrubbs,

you do make a valid point. Hopefully, I will meet new friends there that I can meet with.

Dude your 21+ and they're telling you that you have a curfew of 10? Your going there for your own personal leadership improvement. If you want to go have fun, you should freely be able to do so.

so true

though yes Downtown Disney is possibly your best bet. I recommend the House of Blues. I don't remember the prices, but the food was damned good.

Legal drinking age, yet have a 10pm curfew? That just doesn't add up.

Let it go. He's going on someone else's dime, and he's honoring their rules. Seems like a good example of leadership to me. If he didn't agree to the rules, he could have just refused the trip.

Both are tourist oriented and therefore will be expensive.

Very true and if I don't obey the rules, its costing me $629 dollars.

I just got back last week. From what I can figure, the prices are only about $3-$4 per meal above what you would get on the street for the cafe/sandwich type places. We stayed at a Disney resort and ate every meal at Disney, including Downtown Disney. As far as the meal plan goes, I think it runs in the neighborhood of about $39 per day and includes breakfast, lunch, one snack and dinner at a cafe. I didn't take it because my youngest couldn't eat $39 in a week! Now the more upscale places are probably about $7-$10 more than what you would find on the street. We ate our "nicest" dinner at EPCOT, but be aware that you will probably need reservations for the nicer places.

Breakfast and lunch are covered. However, I will mention the meal plan to my sponsors.

My family has a time share at sheraton vistana, and I always have a fantastic time. We've been going since 1993 or so. Last time I was there was in 2007 and they have really kept the older units up nicely. Plus it's great to stay a resort that is not conformed to the whole disney culture. You really save some $$ this way.
