Would You Go?

Wed Oct 29, 2008 9:50 am

To France and get paid $2500?? A testing company is recruiting New Yorkers for a study on the effects of jet lag. You would fly on a private jet and stay for 3 days. The catch is you cant go and see the sites or anything. Once in Paris you have to stay at the testing facility.

http://www.nydailynews.com/money/200...te_offers_free_trip_to_france.html

The $2500 does sound tempting so I don't know if I would go.

From my experience (and I do have quite a bit), the worst jet lag is from TATL eastbound red-eye flights. The time frame of the flight is too short for a reasonable amount of sleep, but the trip (especially if connecting on both ends) is too long to be able just "blow through" it and catch up on either side.

I have very little problems on westbound flights or flights going more than 12 hours. (A quick 1 hour nap is nice in SYD after flying from the US East coast though).

I did one RTW eastbound trip in 10 days that had 4 overnight flights in 5 days.

(US-CDG-JNB-CDG-BKK)

Even in J class, the worst jet lag I have ever experienced. Never again!

That's so true...

Anyway

I'd do it. I'm not a big Paris fan so not seeing the sights is fine! Or I could use that $2500 to go back and see the sites for "free"...

Can I go? I just got back from a crazy trip.

NCE-VIE-BOM-SIN-SYD-SIN-ZRH-VIE-NCE

4 days total from NCE to NCE (23 to 27) with only one night hotel in Singapore the rest was all on the planes and in the airports!

Strangely, no jet lag at all...  Wow!  Smile
There was a better way to fly it was called Concorde

Nahh, LAX-NRT, BKK-DXB, and DXB-JFK are nothing, hahahaha.

I'm so jealous of you guys that have the time and money to do these trips. One of my life goals is to do a trip around the Pacific Rim, leaving from wherever I am (let's say XXX since I don't know where life will take me) and doing XXX-NRT-HKG-BKK-SIN-MEL-SYD-AKL-HNL-LAX-XXX

A few years ago I flew JNB-SID-ATL-CLT-PGV-CLT-EWR... JFK-JNB leaving Tuesday back Friday, also with only one night in a hotel, and also with no jet lag.
After Monday and Tuesday even the calendar says WTF...

Big deal. I've seen those sites already anyway and Paris is over-priced anyway.

Too bad I am not a New Yorker so I don't qualify for this study.  Sad

I'd think a larger catch is that you have to spend 2 days before hand in a medical facility taking medication that they don't name but claim are already FDA approved.

Can someone give me a lift to New York?

From the study website:

Quote:

Eligible candidates must:
* Be 18-65 years of age
* Have suffered from jet lag in the past
* Be in generally good health
* Have a valid U.S. passport that will not expire 6 months from study participation

I'd say sign up anyway. I did. Worst they could say is no.  crossfingers
