Now I have some questions. This took place in broad daylight in near perfect visibility in calm seas so how ther hell did they not see each other in time. And secondly, isnt there some kind of rules of the road for ships like in case of a head on collision they both have to alter course to the right? Somebody didn't do something right here...........

Flag of the smaller boat seems Croatian..
Incredible incident ,that could have killed people !
The persons in control of both ships must have been:
-either not commanding the ship
-drunk or under influence of drugs
-be occupied with "non-command-compliant activities "..  Yeah sure Yeah sure
Please respect animals - don't eat them...

The nautical rules of the road, at least here in the US for 2 approaching boats, the boat to the right of another boat has the right of way at all times, so it appears that the boat where the video was taken from should have turned right or slowed down to avoid the other boat because this boat was on the left, so the other boat had the right of way.

Only change from this rule, a sailboat under sail has the right of way at all times, under power, then the main rule applies.

In many states in the US, this rule also applies to 2 vehicles at an intersection where there are 4 way stop signs, the vehicle to the right has the right of way to proceed first through the intersection after coming to a full stop.

It's sad how stupid some people can be at sea. We had an incident at my yacht club this summer where a member was on his Freedom 35 sailboat on a clear afternoon sail from Cuttyhunk to South Dartmouth, MA where he was run over, literally, run over by a 63 foot SeaRay cruising at 30 knots. One fellow on the sailboat survived but the owner and helmsman at the time of the incident was killed. The owner of the SeaRay's first question upon arrival ashore was when he could continue on with his vacation. The response was as soon as our investigation is complete and the life ring belonging to the gentleman your boat killed is removed from your propeller shaft.

A Brazilian Olympic medalist in sailing was run over by some drunk in a yacht while sailing his Tornado Catamaran (a rather small boat, more like a dinghy). He was dragged down and one of his legs got cutoff by the propeller.

There are animals out there.
