The 1st A.net Mid-Air Meet/The Mega EI A332 Meet!

I thought it would be appropriate to continue the meet planning in this thread instead of here Wink

As some of you may know, Aer Lingus are selling off a positioning flight CWL-DUB very cheaply, and on the A330-200. Most of the following a.nutters have managed to grab C class seats for cheaper than I have my Y class seat!

EI2283. Saturday, March 21st. CWL-DUB, A332. Departing: 1245 Arriving: 1345

Yep get a FGW train from Paddington to Bristol. From there it's just a hop to Cardiff

What a cool idea. Count me in ! I will make a whole trip around it and try to combine it with visiting Concorde in Bristol and flights with Skybus and Air South West. We should decide if we hang out further in Dublin that afternoon or so? I will be at seat 3H

But with regards to this meet - im out. I cant get to CWL easily from here, and ive flown an A330 before so it doesnt exactly have great appeal.

I didn't realise that
but seeing as Trentles paid for my CWL-DUB hop and EDI-LHR is only £30, I'll do that instead and use a new airport too Smile

Indeed firstly out of those there was the IB A340 where we all bizarrely went to Las Palmas for a day from Madrid, crazy fun- few years back now? Then there was the BA 737 that was taken over by A.netters in all cabins to Iceland and the Captain made an announcement to cheers all around rotfl

This would be a nice little flight as Ive never been n an A330 before. Unfortunately its not the easiest place for me to get to from NCL.

Someone mentioned its a positioning flight but Amadeus shows it as flying DUB-CWL the same day at 1030, EI2282.

Is there rugby or something on that weekend?

edit: Looks like business is sold out now. Y is priced at £14.70 though which is a bargain

Yeah its something to do with the 6 Nations I believe..

I'm looking at doing this but CWL is a bit difficult to get to from where I live... BUT... I'm thinking of flying MAN-EDI-CWL with FlyBe first to actually get to CWL then the EI flight then possibly stay in DUB for a night then fly back to LPL with FR.. Will confirm in the next few days if I can get the days off work..

Nope - 2G, 3DG and 4DGH are still showing as available on the EI web site.

I'm staying overnight on Friday night at the Holiday Inn Express Cardiff Airport. The rooms are only £63 - apparently one side of the hotel has an "airport view" and the other is a view over the water.

You could take the Railair coach to Reading from LHR and catch the train there, saves the hassle of the tube into London and the train might be a bit cheaper too (although not sure about that as I don't use trains - unlike FGW125 aka MYT332)

Sounds like a good meet though, shame I can't commit to anything that far ahead.

Yes, this is the issue... does anyone actually fly to Wales from the North East? Or is the way to do it FR to DUB and then EI out to CWL?

FlyBE and Eastern Airways fly NCL-CWL

bmiBaby and FlyBE fly EDI-CWL GLA-CWL

First Great Western, Cross Country, and Arriva Trains Wales travel to Cardiff Central from all over, main routes include Manchester Piccadilly, Birmingham New Street, Nottingham, London Paddington (if you need anymore train information don't hesitate to PM me)

National Express also travel to Cardiff Central from numerous UK points

Then to get from Cardiff Central to Cardiff International Airport (Rhoose Station) it's a direct train that leaves Cardiff Central hourly at xx43, then there's a free shuttle service that goes from Rhoose to the Holiday Inn Express (adjacent to the airport) and the Airport Terminal. There's also regular bus services with Cardiff Bus

There are also cheap hotels available in Cardiff City Centre, namely the Novotel, Ibis, & Etap (Etap is only £30 if you're brave enough!)

I'm also booked on this flight Smile

Not very - its on the great western mainline (well, temple meads is round the corner, but you can take a train back onto a mainline station i believe)

BE and T3 fly between NCL-CWL but they're not the cheapest airlines at the moment.

If I was to do it I would probably fly NCL-BRS with U2 and then take the train upto CWL. Fly to DUB with EI and fly home that night with FR or stay overnight and fly home with EI the next day.

The NCL-BRS-DUB-NCL itinerary costs about £65.00 flying NCL-BRS U2, CWL-DUB EI and DUB-NCL FR all on the same day

we're travelling first class by train (sorry chris, executive decision). tickets can be booked for 21st March from 27th December onwards (my birthday) so I will book then to get an advance first fare.

tom - try reselecting your seat in business class. also, what flight back are you getting? i was going to get EI244 back the next day, into LGW

Am interested. Got Y for £14.70 one way and then £36.00 return (ish) to BHX on the sunday. Won't give me the option of Business though on website - only offers lowest fares. Are they all gone?

I booked a 'lowest fare' and then selected a business class seat. I believe the flight is being sold as one-class.

Same price too.

I've already looked at doing it but it won't let me for some reason. I love my window seats!

I was looking at getting EI248 DUB-LGW later on Saturday evening, I don't really have the funds to stay the night I'm afraid.

Are you looking on thetrainline.com? I saw fares for as low as £11.50! I doubt first class will be worth it?
