Obama Is Too Far To The Right

Thu Jan 15, 2009 7:36 pm

... in his official Presidential portrait. A close-up like that should be centered. It looks unfinished, like the photographer forgot to crop the photograph.

What is interesting is that it's the first official portrait of a President created with a digital camera. And a 5D mk II at that, quite a sensible choice. It's about time the highest office in the land got in touch with modern technology, while at the same time forgoing the excess and waste we have come to expect and that might be associated with an outrageously priced 1Ds mk III or Nikon equivalent.

A not-so-subtle use of image to imply power.

In Hollywood movies, the upper right quadrant is the "hero" space. Upper left quadrant is the alternative.

So the flag is in the upper left quadrant.

Is he actually wearing that flag pin on the lapel, or did they have to photshop it on afterwards?
btw, he is actually leaning to the left (how ironic) in the photo, since the photo is taken in front of him and not behind him.

There are some much better presidential photos. The 1981 photo of Reagan was very-well done.

Really? I could have sworn I mentioned that somewhere... ok, got it:

official Presidential portrait

Now that you see we agree it is not a "passport photograph", we can also agree that it looks stupid, no matter what the purpose. Unless, of course, the purpose is to show how not to take a good portrait photograph.

They tried to get cute and reinvent the wheel, and unfortunately we are stuck with this right-leaning poorly constructed photograph until they hopefully correct it in the next portrait.

I'm WA~~~~~~Y more concerned about his policies rather than his Presidential photo.

A bit bland, but I think its okay.

It's less static and he doesn't have his back directly to the flag this way. Not too bad.

The image wouldn't be all that bad – had we not seen far too much of the brain in that pretty head...!  mischievous

No, but I CAN imagine this.

Why would we want Tina Fey on government buildings?

You can put lipstick on a pig, it's still not wearing an American flag pin.
