Hello all,
I have not seen yet any threads for the new U.S. President Barack Obama Inauguration so I am starting one. Please feel free to post all relevant materials here.
Please try to avoid political views and off topic things so the thread will not be removed or locked by the Forum Moderators.

I am starting with some links.

I'm stuck in a trans Atlantic conference call, so I'm watching streaming CNN coverage. Just saw a long line of Vice Presidents and their wives: Dan and Marilyn Qualye (funny, I had forgotten all about them), Al and Tipper Gore, Walter and Joan (?) Mondale, etc.

Then, a long line of former presidents. Jimmy Carter looks really old but Rosalind looks pretty good. George H. W. looks a bit wobbly walking.

The scene is absolutely SPECTACULAR!!! I thought Obama's Berlin appearance was astonishing..this is completely off the scales. The sheer size of witnesses to this event has to the largest in the history of USA. No other political event has drawn this much interest..I can only imagine numbers worldwide.

The crowd chanting Obama, Obama, Obama...before he's even close to coming out was telling. This guy electrifies the crowd in the way a rock star wishes they could.

Welcome to 2009 President Obama, now go give 'em hell!

I was kind of suprised that the former first ladies of Presidents who died are not there - Reagan and Ford. Seems like everyone else is invited. Maybe they just want to lay low now that their husbands are gone.

The crowd is amazing. They are saying this is the single largest most watched event in the history of television.

Its great to see so many everyday African Americans in the crowd who finally feel that they are a part of the political process. BBC has been interviewing them.

Officially underway now.

I wish him all the best. May he have the necessary luck he deserves.
Unbelievable to see that more than 2 million people are witnessing the event in Washington DC, 10 times more than when his predecessor whose name I have forgotten  Wink was inaugurated.
Sadly he start his job in the biggest crisis since the times of F.D. Roosevelt. This may undermine his efforts, but its also a chance to become one of the greatest presidents the US ever had.

It might be that, but they are both getting older, so it is harder for them to travel so they usually will send an official family represenative, like one of their kids

CNN coverage was nausiating - clash of egos trying to outdo each other.

Tuned in PBS and put up with the occasional gaffes.

Great speech, great pagentry!

Does anyone have a link to a video of the classical music performance?

I did a you-tube search and came up with nothing new.

Jackie O. was a woman on the world, ultra-sophisticated femme du monde. She knew how to dress, she knew how to put on a show, she wanted to be seen and admired, talked about and she certainly succeeded. She is part of History for the good and the bad. I do not see anything simple about Jackie O.

I sure hope that Mrs Obama will not have the same future as Jackie O.

The speech was short, and rather well rounded in the fact he was able to make reference to the historical events, people and sayings of this country and put them in context of today's America. Well done, President Obama!  fluffy  (That feels food to say!)

Obamas speech was wonderful. Never thought Id hear those kind of words come from a US President. All Americans should thank god that he has come to lead them in this critical time.

If you analise his words there are some clear messages also.

''Americans need to pick themselves up , dust themselves down and re build America''.

All a very emotional moment.

The air security must be huge on the way to Andrew AFB.

The leading mistake made during Obama's oath of office was made by Chief Justice Roberts, who then had to correct himself. Obama knew the correct words by heart and knew that if he repeated the oath as specified by the Constitution, he would not have been repeating the incorrect words mouthed by Roberts. Thus, a moment of stumbling.

I thought it was very nice. From the live newscast, the contents in the gift box are a pen and a book as it is known that mrs Laura Bush will be writing her memoirs. This is a very nice intention.
