Just bought the new HTC Touch HD mobile phone at vast expense!
Very cool thing and all good. Put Movies on, photos etc but there seems to be sticking point with my Music. The bulk of it I have bought from iTunes which Synced fine to my old iPhone but I can't get it onto the HTC (well I can but it won't play!) probably due to copy protection of some description.
Tried to import through Windows Media Player and Media Monkey, but no joy!!
HTC running Windows Mobile Professional and have iTunes running on a iMac and also my laptop which is under Vista.
Any ideas anyone?

Might have something to do with the number of places you can put itunes music. I got an audio book from itunes, and cant move it to my Nokia N95, it just wont go onto the phone.

You're right, just won't go on. Selected the entire contents and copied it over to the right folder, seemed to copy (took 4 minutes!), but not there after!

I don't think so. My girlfriend just got an MP3 player and I tried to transfer songs over and it would not do it. I've been told that Apple encripts the iTunes songs so they can't be.

Could burn them to CD, then import back into Windows Media Player - take bleedin' ages though................

You probably have some of your music in DRM-protected AAC from the iTunes Store. You will have to upgrade them to DRM-free in order to play them on non-Apple devices. This will also give you double the data rate and thus higher audio quality, but it will require an additional fee.
Since this month, about 80% of all titles in the Store are available DRM-free; From April the rest of them will follow. After that all music from the iTunes Store will be DRM-free.
Of course your Phone needs to play AAC, but I guess yours should be able to. You can test that by ripping a CD in AAC format (which will always remain DRM-free) and putting that on your phone.

There are programs that can strip that crap and/or convert to another format. Tunebite is one, I'm sure there are others these days that are free.

I believe you can burn them to a CD and then from there, copy them from off of the CD to another file. Although, for 1800 songs, this would take quite a long time.

Takes about 40 minutes to burn and check a 4+ gig dvd and a backup is always good. How much data is your 1800 songs?

Not entirely true. DRMed tracks from iTunes can only be played on an iPod, iPhone, etc. Non-DRMed tracks (iTunes Plus, any of the now millions of "DRM Free" tracks in the iTunes store [wihich, BTW, you can "upgrade" existing songs in your library that are available in iTunes Plus/DRM free for something like ~$0.30/track]
Your device would in any event need to play AAC audio files.
I have a SlimDevices (now Logitech) Transporter [http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/speakers_audio/wireless_music_systems/devices/3163&cl=US,EN] that I play unprotected AACs on all the time.
You could also, if you were so inclined burn the music to CD then rip the CDs as MP3s or unprotected AACs

Created a Virtual CD with Media Monkey and re imported the lot, seems to work fine!

Well, DUH. If you have 10,000 songs it's $3,000, but I figured that people could do the math as needed for their individual libraries
I didn't say it was cheap, made sense, was fair, logical or anything else, just that it's $0.30/track... In my case it's going to be about $190.00 when I do it. I just wish that I could spread the pain across a few weeks or be more selective about the conversion... There are some songs I purchased that I regretted spending money on the first time, let alone spending another 33% on because the upgrade is an all or nothing thing.

The restriction has just been lifted a few days ago.
In April the rest of all tracks is finally going DRM-free; At long last!

Download a DRM removal tool, point it at your itunes directory and boom you're done.
