Slumdog Millionaire - Who's Seen It?

Fri Jan 30, 2009 6:46 am

Hey everyone...

I just got home from the theatre after seeing Slumdog Millionaire. I went in somewhat skeptical after a friend told me that it was excellent.

All I can say is... WOW!!! The last couple years have been terrible for movies, but that was honestly among one of the best movies I've ever seen!

So what are all of your thoughts on it? Do you think it will get the Oscar for Best Picture?

Seen it, like it don't love it, but apparently I'm in the minority. I don't think it'll get the Best Picture award though, despite all the love for it.

Seen it, I really don't get what the big deal is about this movie, I thought it was quite cheesy.

Hmm... maybe my enthusiasm is due partially to my excellent mood today because of the end of exams. However, the people I went with all agreed that it was excellent, and the mood of the crowd afterwards certainly paralleled that.

I can see what you are getting at when you refer to it as cheesy, however I would say that's too harsh of a word, and that aspect of the film did not detract from it overall. Of course some of the plot was quite far-fetched, but is that not allowed in a movie?

Best movie I saw all of last year. I'm hoping it does pick up the Best Picture Oscar.

Its been running to full houses out here....There is a lot of good press too.
Most people that have seen it are positive about the movie.
Even the Director was surprised. Smile

I'll probably get free time only after 15/02/2009 due work at the airport compounded by Fog up north.

The movie has been released in Hindi too.

I watched the movie a few days ago. Honestly, I am not that crazy about it and I really don't think it is worthy of the best picture award.

I saw it and thought it was only alright. I certainly wouldn't see it again. There was something about it that I didn't like but I can't quite put my finger on it. I guess it wasn't as 'deep' as I thought it'd be.

Deep does not mean "good". It is a silly story. After all its a Fantasy.. Arent most movies?

I mean Benjamin Button.. how is that more real than Slumdog?

But where Slumdog shines is in execution. The camera work, the directing, the music, the acting are fantastic.

Tell me that the train scene is not perfect?

I thought it was a Bollywood movie that was being played at US theaters. If its winning awards, heck it must be worth watching. It doesn't look like the kinda movie I would be crazy about though.

LATIKAAAAAAAA!!!!  Big grin I've seen the five nominees as of this past week and I'm totally pulling for what my sister and I affectionately call "Slumdog Bajillionaire". Please not Benjamin Button (I liked it, but it wasn't 13 nominations-good, you know?)

I heard the opposite....I was reading NDTV the other day an article which says nobody liked it in Bbay....and that it had something to do with Amitabh's Blog..

Have you seen it yet...what did you think...

Btw..was it censored?...because the ENGLISH version...has some Hindi Swears in it (coded...nobody could tell :-P)

I just got back from watching it and quite enjoyed it, The acting from the children was great. I think the part about it I liked the most was the cinematography and the look at parts of India we rarely see.

I was contemplating seeing that or Gran Torino and I ended up seeing Gran Torino tonight, that to me was worthy of the best picture (not having seen Slumdog) it was really really well done.

I totally agree, but I never said it wasn't good. The story got rather boring after a while. As for the acting, I'd say it was par. I will agree though that the train scene was great.

I saw it. Seemed ok. Myself being from India, it seemed like a usual movie. Rahman good as usual, kids were great. The train scene was good, I just couldn't believe when I saw the kids being pushed off a moving train.

Saw it yesterday. Very good film. Unusually, a lot better than the book. Great acting, particularly by the very young children, and some very good cinematography and music.

Just saw it today; I thought it was wonderful. I laughed out loud at Jamal telling the tourists that (Empress) Mumtaz (for whom the Taj Mahal) was built was killed in an automobile accident on the way to giving birth!

Wonderful acting - and really loved that dance sequence at the end!

Great, uplifting movie!

Agreed. BUT.. you have to credit Danny Boyle too. As soon as i walked out of Trainspotting, The Beach and Slumdog, it wasnt 24 hrs before i bought their soundttrack.

In terms of the comparison to Benjamin Button, I saw that yesterday. Awful . Crappest movie I've seen in a while, and my wife likes chick-flicks so I've seen a few crap ones.

I saw it this past weekend.....honestly, and I don't mean to sound callous, but I thought the first two-thirds of the movie were awfully drawn out and slow. I found myself getting kind of bored, actually. However, I thought that the last 1/3rd was great -- it really picked up and I finally found myself feeling more engaged.
