One Tax Cheat To Another

Thu Mar 05, 2009 11:23 pm

Discussing how they will spend your tax dollars!!!!             How they managed to do it with a straight face is beyond me.

http://cosmos.bcst.yahoo.com/up/play...61&cl=12305593&ch=4226720&src=news

It's just to precious. I may make a video loop of the first 30 seconds just to have something to chuckle about after a long day. If you listen to the Treasury turbo tax cheat he mentions how the recession will be over by 2011 and then they will unleash the hounds of liberalism. Somehow he must have missed a memo because his boss was talking about changing health care starting today.

I really cannot get over the fact that a tax cheat is running the IRS.... that's like the first question you ask when vetting ANY potential nominee, especially the guy who runs the Treasury!

I'm not a big fan of Geithner and I wish he hadn't been the nominee. His tax issues may or may not have been an oversight, I don't know, only he knows, but I wish they wouldn't have confirmed him.

This is as bad as Barney Frank today saying that they want to go after the people who caused this mess. Is he going to investigate himself?? Notice he said nothing about going after politicians.

Other than those few things you said, basically everything we buy is totally made outside of the US.(BTW, what shoes are actually made in the US?)

We are a service based economy now, not much in the way of manufacturing. Which is another reason you are seeing such a disparity between the "haves" and "have nots." There are no jobs for the middle, they are all outsourced by the large companies which are predominantly owned by the wealthy.

Actually, I call a $14.26 trillion GDP prosperous. That's about 18 percent of the world's GDP, with about 5 percent of the world's population - pretty good, I'd say.

New Balance (but not all of them).

I am against outsourcing for the record. The problem is that in good times the American people don't give a damn if their shoes are made in the U.S. or not. They want what is cheapest. Having cheaper goods makes your dollar worth more as well so it is a trade-off. For that reason I buy New Balance though.

Reminds me of the 10 hours I spent filling in tax forms this week. Do you know that New York State actually expects you to declare if you bought any books while on vacation in New Hampshire and brought them back to New York, to pay sales tax on them? They give that very example in the instructions for their main tax form (one of dozens of different forms). I thought about e-mailing them asking if I had to pay sales tax on a pizza I ate in New Jersey and relieved myself of in New York, but thought that was a sure-fire way to get audited.
Read this very carefully, I shall write this only once!

And those "few things" UAL777 listed are massive industries that produce hundreds of billions of dollars worth of goods each year. The United States is the world's second-largest manufacturer only behind China which has more than four times our population. Cease with the melodrama that the United States doesn't produce anything. You are absolutely wrong.

Those few things are the problem, huge industries that have a large say in where we work, what we do on our computers, and apparently, what we wear on our feet. It's not a diversified economy, and most of THEIR labor is outsourced as well. Sorry, but just because they make a lot of money doesn't necessarily mean their goods are being made here. Then again, with all stupidiy, I do not know if a company who manufactures outside of the US is actually TAXED when they bring their products back into the US to sell them to US citizens.

In any case, if the current job situation is any indicator of what I'm talking about, then I'm fairly correct.

Also, you need to take a look at "manufacturing rates per capita" of our country and compare them to others. It would explain better what we produce per person rather than as a whole as that is the best indicator. We are also the 13th largest economy in the world if you do it that way. Hardly the top 2.

#1 Ireland: 10,863.484 $ per capita 2004
#2 Switzerland: 8,204.85 $ per capita 2003

I think your covered their, because you paid sales tax in New Jersey. However, if the sales tax in NY is higher than NJ you'll probably have to make up the difference. The reason you pay it on the book from New Hampshire is because they have no sales tax. It's the same reason I would have to pay PA sales tax on a car I bought in Delaware. Don't ask me why I know these things, I lead a very boring life  Smile.

California wants you to pay sales tax on ANYTHING you purchased outside of California, doesn't matter what it was or in which state/country you bought it in. Even things that you purchased on the Internet that wasn't a California based company.

I think the key phrase there is "California WANTS you to pay sales tax on anything you purchased outside California" Whether or not that actually happens is up to you.

If you fill out a California State Tax form and the end of each year, they ask you if you purchased anything out side the state, either in person or from the Internet, how much it cost when you bought it, then pay the 7.75% sales tax on those items to California.

I got this email a few days ago. I think it applies nicely to the current world financial situation...

Indian Chief 'Two Eagles' was asked by a white government official, 'You have observed the white man for 90 years. You've seen his wars and his technological advances. You've seen his progress, and the damage he's done.' Idealogy
The Chief nodded in agreement.
The official continued, 'Considering all these events, in your opinion, where did the white man go wrong?'

The Chief stared at the government official for over a minute and then calmly replied. 'When white man find land, Indians running it, no taxes, no debt, plenty buffalo, plenty beaver, clean water. Women did all the work, Medicine man free. Indian man spend all day hunting and fishing; all night having sex.'

Then the chief leaned back and smiled. 'Only white man dumb enough to think he could improve system like that.'
Eagles may soar, but weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.
