Sunlight In Alaska!

How much daylight is there in Anchorage or Denali National Park in early August? I know the 'peak' time is around the solstice in late June, but surely the days are still quite long in August? Is there even a tiny smidgen of light at midnight or 1am?

The sun goes down in ATL by 9pm, so I'm sure ANC will beat that!  Silly

In August the latest sunset you will have will be on the 1st which will be at 10:37pm and early in the month the darkest you will probably get is the dark blue sky you see about 30minutes to an hour after sunset when its not 100% dark.

The days range from 17 hours 4 minutes on the 1st to 14 hours and 18 minutes on the 31st. so they will likely be longer than the maximum you are used to in Atlanta on the longest day. It's interesting in a month that nearly 3 hours of day length gets taken away, also that far north it takes a long time to get dark even during equal length days.

If you are wondering where I got this info I got it at the following link.

http://www.timeanddate.com/worldcloc...h=8&year=2009&obj=sun&afl=-1&day=1

FYI if you didn't know: You never will get 24 hours of true daylight in Anchorage even on June 21st but at that time it will be light enough for you to be outside without the heavy usage of artificial lights (its 5 degrees south of the arctic circle).

Early August?

In Anchorage, you'll get about 18 hours sunlight. Go further north, and you'll see 20 hours.

As for Redoubt, well, shes been quiet. Still rumbling, spewing a little ash and steam but no major booms.

Gonna be a long summer in Alaska.

I was in the Gulf of Alaska participating in a joint exercise with Elmendorf USAF F-15s in June of 2004 and we got to see 1:30 AM sunsets. Really cool to watch.

Hell, it's gonna snow here in Cleveland Monday and Tuesday, Pep, so I can't even imagine summer right now. Freaking winter weather.
