Mega MAN Meet 09: The Beginning...

Sat Apr 18, 2009 9:30 pm

In the not too distant future, the grim wastelands of Lancashire shall be graced by dozens of a.nutters, enticed by promises of copious amounts of lager and all too common charter airlines. Not to forget the pub dwelling, mentally questionable alpha-drunkard scot, GKirk. This annual event is known as...

The airliners.net mega MAN meet

As usual it shall be held on the first weekend of July. In this case, the 4th and 5th. No doubt the venues will include The Airport Pub, The Romper and Bewleys.

Who's up for it?

Attendees
TupolevTu154

Let the planning begin!

For those interested, BA is currently £72 return flying LON-MAN on 4th am and MAN-LON on 5th.

Virgin trains are approx the same.

I'll be arriving on WOW2320 from PLH/BRS at 09:30 on the Saturday, so long as it's not gone up by tomorrow which is when my student loan arrives so I can book it  bigthumbsup . There's only one seat left before the fare jumps up to £70, so fingers crossed! No idea how I'll be getting back or when, but I'm sure I'll think up something interesting - I've got a friend up in MAN who I've wanted to visit for a while now, so it'll kill two birds with one stone.

Haven't thought about flights for this one yet...

I'm definitely going via LHR though, cause I want to spend a couple of hours getting my moneys worth in the Galleries lounge.

Jordan and I are arriving on the Friday and leaving Sunday afternoon btw.

I will put my name on the Maybe-list for the moment.
Still depends on
a) if I head for the airshow "AirPower09" at Zeltweg, Austria being held the weekend before and
b) some development at my job.
On the positive side I still have a flight on BE in May which I either need to rebook or lsay farewell to completely, so ...

There we go, seeing as i had such a good laugh this past weekend I've gone ahead and booked my flights already! Got a bargain at £76 rtn! So i'm happy.

I'll make the offer now if anyone is travelling from LHR at the same time i can take one person and one person only into the BA F lounge with me pre flight to kick the weekend off with some Champagne and a fry up! All sensible offers of bribes will be considered!  Wink hahaha

I'll probably just come over for the Saturday.

A quick question to those who know the North West better than I do: it is significantly cheaper to get a train to Manchester Piccadilly than Manchester Airport (First don't do student discounted advance fares to the airport). Is it worth just going to Piccadilly and then getting a train to the airport from there?

That it does. I shall say then that it's easy and cheap to just get a train from Piccadilly if you can get a cheap fare there. It'll be £3 or something to the airport and take just over 15 minutes. 185's run throughout the day!  Wink

Oh and I don't think I'll be there this year which will be the first 'MAN Meet' I've ever missed. I'll be with Hannah and James celebrating his 30th Birthday in destination unknown....

I've found it normally is, that or book a train to Stafford as it's sometimes cheaper still than Manchester as it's slightly less distance.

I've booked my inbound flight now, I'm probably leaving on the Monday or Tuesday with BE to BHD, I quite like the idea of an EMB195 for £23.

With the added complication that - as far as I know - there aren't any direct trains from the North East to Stafford, whereas the Train Operating Company That Must Not Be Named operates its Class You-Know-Whats direct from Newcastle to Manchester...

Just sorted out my travel back home as well, I was going to wait, but it was such a good deal I just had to grab it! I'll be leaving on the Monday, routing; BLK-IOM-LCY-PLH on LoganAir, VLM and WOW - got the lot for £82.40, including all the booking charges etc...

MAN-LCY flights aren't too expensive either, could be an interesting option for some people.

BLK-IOM-LCY-PLH on LoganAir, VLM and WOW - got the lot for £82.40, including all the booking charges etc...

MAN-LCY flights aren't too expensive either, could be an interesting option for some people.

I see you took my recommendation! VLM is a must for anybody flying LON-MAN-LON, I love them after last year's MAN-LCY and plan on doing it again!

What aircraft do Loganair use on that route?

I've never known anyone to fly such complicated routings! Nice work though!

You know, going direct is so, well... final! I mean you land and you're there - you've reached the destination and the journey is over - boooooring!

I was hoping to work an EMB 195 in there as well, but I'll not be getting that on this occasion. The LoganAir flight is operated by SAAB 340Bs, not bad for £20 - although I do have to add in the rip off BLK departure tax of £10!!! VLM was only £32, I'd rather have flown off again in a Manx2 Let, but VLM + WOW was the only way I could get back to PLH that night, I really don't want to have more overnight stays than I need to.

So BLK-IOM-LCY altogether was £62? This is something I may consider (if you don't mind me tagging along), it's only a fiver more than MAN-LCY!

Providing flight prices don't rise within the next three weeks, I'll be flying LHR-ARN-MAN with BA and SK on Friday the 3rd.
