KEF Meet April 2010

Thu Apr 23, 2009 5:09 pm

After a few people mentioned at last weekends LHR meet some had said that they would like to return to KEF for another meet similar to the one we had 2 years ago

Proposed dates would be April 9-12 2010, 3 years to the day of the 1st KEF meet, announcing this meet this far ahead gives people to get booked on their respective flights and hotels and time to save for the overpriced Icelandic beer!

Feel free to suggest other dates should you wish to!

Quoting EZYAirbus (Thread starter):
overpriced Icelandic beer!

It's become much, much more reasonable now - found it for around £2.90 per pint when I was back there a few months ago. I'd actually suggest people book through Icelandair on the four day/three night deals they have. Superb value, the whole packages are cheaper than a set of return flights on FI.

I'll go on the maybe list for now, but it's very remote - my partner wants to go again and spend a few weeks to drive around the whole of Iceland, she also wants to buy a horse next time and fly it home... expensive, but would be cool to get on a 75F if possible! Big grin

Wow, that's quite a long time to go ...
I have no idea what 2010 will bring, but I will watch this thread, as Iceland still is terra incognita for me ...

If I wasn't being made redundant and having the whole European adventure thrown into question by my shitty Working Visa, I'd also be a definite. I've been to Iceland (also in April, of 2005 tho, funnily enough) and loved every second of it. I'd go back in a heartbeat!

It's a bit far out at the moment for me to go on the definate list, but I'd love to go back, although this time I WON'T be doing all the driving so I can enjoy the nightlife a bit more without being shagged out and having to go home early !!. I'd quite like to do one of those tours in those huge 4X4's they had over there, they looked likt great fun. I'm sure we could hire one out for our own group too.

Nice Idea! However:

I'd recommend that you guys should rather visit in June-August since the weather in April is by no means tourist-friendly!. I personally think the period from February to early May is the worst period to visit (weather wise).

I like the idea. As Dan said above, FI offers great package deals so it could be very interesting. The only bad thing is that the schedules from CDG are quite bad (arriving late afternoon / returning early in the morning...), does anybody know if they have better schedules from another city ?

They serve CPH the most with four or five daily flights IIRC. LHR is served twice daily, but the morning out and evening back departures tend to fill up more quickly. Maybe somebody fancies doing it the adventurous way like I did, and fly CPH-FAE-RKV on Atlantic Airways.  silly

does anybody know if they have better schedules from another city ?

FRA and AMS depart around 1400h, with arrival from KEF about 90 minutes earlier.
Alternative could be to fly SK via OSL (but I am not sure if this a seasonal service ...)

I'm actually looking foreward to this. The last time was great. Stay away from those geysers! Keep the big bus off the gravel trail going up the big hill! Buy your alcohol at the airport duty free! Pack some freeze dried food!

I'd recommend that you guys should rather visit in June-August since the weather in April is by no means tourist-friendly!. I personally think the period from February to early May is the worst period to visit (weather wise).

Better weather + I can fly IcelandExpress from EIN (if they still operate by that time)  Smile

So the A.net meet will stay in the month of April ?
don't throw away tomorrow !
