Went to IKEA in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia. It's super large in size.

Which is the largest IKEA on earth? In Sweden I guess? I mean top 10. Thanks

I always liked IKEA. I used to be a client when I lived in Paris. I like the concept and the aesthetics. Also I like their prices! Good quality at a reasonable cost. No disappointment.

Unfortunately there are no IKEAs anywhere near where I live. Sad

It is near Stockholm. They actually had it on the Amazing Race a few seasons ago. Very impressive.

To give a point of reference for some of us, the Chicago-Schaumburg IKEA is 300,000 square feet, and the Chicago-Bolingbrook IKEA is 200,000 square feet.

There is one near just outside of ADL. There is also one very close to BRU.

PDX is very close ( I actually know crews that have hopped the light rail from the airport to IKEA to grab breakfast) and YVR isn't more than a few miles from the terminal.

The IKEA on Delaware Avenue in South Philly is very close to PHL, and the IKEA in Phoemix is within 5 minutes of PHX along Interstate 17.

The IKEA in Seattle is not too far to SEA, maybe closer to PAE, but wouldn't classify it next to the airport like EWR and ATH, which you can see both upon landing.

Also, is it me, but I always pretend I'm going to Swedish C&I when checking out. How about y'all?

It's wierd how they have several locations near airports. I guess it is because the land is cheap for such sites, with retail, don't get complaints from the neighbors. The EWR site is actually adjacnet to the Port Newark-Port Elizabeth seaport and the underlying property is owned by the PANYNJ. Originally the area was to be used for warehousing adjacent to the seaport areas, but it was a lot more than needed so retail was considered along with non-sea/airport related facilities.
I bet the parking lots for the USA locations are a lot bigger than those in Europe.

ORD has one about 5-10 miles up I-90 in Shaumburg. Its not really "next" to the airport, but you can see planes landing/taking off from the store.

Is your IKEA single-story or multi-level? Here in Houston, it's 2-story while in Seattle it's a 1-story. I believe Newark is also a 2-story one and I specifically remember as a little kid back in the 80s that the cafeteria had an area where you can spot at EWR. I want to say the one in Burnaby outside of Vancouver is 2-story while the one in Oakland is 1-story. Can anyone confirm these?

You'd all laugh at the IKEA in Saudi Arabia. It's the size of a normal furniture shop. It avoids showing women or any male relationships. It's also odd just to see male thorbs hanging in trendy wardrobes. It's kinda unreal.

I have a friend that works at the Burbank, CA store.
It's tiny compared to the Moscow store.

I think the largest IKEA in the UK is in Warrington, but there was one that opened near Purley and I think that is the biggest. I quite like going to IKEA, the one in Warrington has a nice Café and it feels like an airport.

There is an IKEA near ARN, I think that is the largest one, it was kind of funny as that was the first proper shop I saw once out of the airport.

I remember a few years ago a new Ikea opened up in London, there was a big advertising campaign for the opening and a lot of hype was created so when the doors finally opened there was chaos! At the time it was the largest Ikea in the UK and people went mad for the discount prices and special offers that had been advertised.

Here are the definite facts about the largest IKEAs.

Largest IKEA today: IKEA Kungens Kurva (Stockholm, Sweden)
55 000 sq meters, roughly 592 000 sq feet.
First opened 1965 though in a smaller version which was severly damaged by a fire in 1970.. Since then it has grown dramatically in size to 55 000 sq meters.

Largest NEWLY constructed IKEA: IKEA Svågertorp (Malmö, Sweden) Type XXL 3
48 000 sq meters, roughly 517 000 sq feet.
Scheduled to open autumn 2009. The building is constructed on pillars so that the ground level will be available for parking (not included int the above mentioned area). First floor will contain the warehouse and ½ the sales area. Second floor will have offices and the second ½ of the sales area. The construction time of the building is less than one year and they are bang on target on the timeplan.

It's actually on the Purley Way in Croydon and is my local IKEA. They always seem to be extending the thing and every time I go there it seems to have got bigger! Apparently it's the largest IKEA store in London along with the store at Lakeside, which both come in at 400,000 sq feet. The Croydon store is also built on two floors.

Genuine question: am I the only one who actually dislikes IKEA, and who whates shopping in there? I mean, the fact that I have to fight my way through stuff that I eventually have to assemble myself ... no thanks.

What about a real furniture store where you talk with a consultant, then have your stuff delivered and assembled by someone who actually knows how to do it?

The biggest Ikea in Belgium is the recently opened one in Ghent. It is around 36.000m², or 387500 feet.

As for the Ikea in BRU... it's not that close to the airport. It's around 3km from the airport entrance if you'd go in a straight line, but by road it'll take you 9km to get there, hurray for urban planning!
