Haven't watched much MotoGP racing lately, but I caught the Spanish GP from the Barcelona circuit just now, what a race! I get sucked into F1 and sports car racing where the race is decided long before the finish, but this race featured Valentino Rossi and his teammate Lorenzo going wheel to wheel for the entire distance, and they passed each other 3 times for the lead in the final lap! Rossi took Lorenzo in the final corner in an insanely brave move and won by less than a tenth of a second, absolutely epic. Bike racing is also thrilling because you can really see the guys pushing themselves to the limit in a way that isn't visible in cars. Incredible stuff, now we have these 2 guys and the Ducati of Casey Stoner tied for the championship lead. Here's a video with spanish commentary-

That finish between Rossi and Lorenzo was probably the best piece of racing I've seen since the 90's, when F1 was still as exciting as MotoGP is today.

I've never watched the MotoGP at all until yesterday and saw the last 5 minutes of the race. It was fantastic, can't wait until the next race, which I'm defnitely watching from the start.

I'm glad to see some potential converts! We were watching it in the pub and the atmosphere was like a cup final, Rossi, Lorenzo, Stoner and Pedrosa fans all yelling at the TV! The result silenced those who say Rossi is a has-been.

Superbikes are also exciting, the next WSBK race is this coming Sunday in San Marino and the next MotoGP is at Assen in Holland on Saturday 27 June followed by British WSBK on Sunday 28th.

wee! compared to the 2007 motogp season thread (https://www.airliners.net/aviation-forums/non_aviation/read.main/1654691) i once posted this one seems to be taking off :P
it was a brilliant race, i think stoner was exhausted and not able to keep up due to dehydration. stoner vs pedrosa vs lorenzo will be the fight of the future after rossi retired.
after that we will see generation folger take over.

Amazing to hear talk of Rossi being over the hill or retiring, I know his heart isn't as in it as it once was after all his championships, but the guy is still young by most standards, just having turned 30 this year. Maybe we'll see him in a car, apparently those tests he did with Ferrari in their F1 car a year or two ago went pretty well, he could certainly find a place in sports car racing if he so chose...

One final thing that blows me away about these bikes- their top speeds. F1 cars hit something like 195 mph at Catalunya, while the MotoGP bikes are topping out at around 212 mph. Must be a rush to be on a little tiny motorcycle going faster than a Formula 1 car! Apparently Stoner was clocked at 216mph at the Chinese GP...

Dani Pedrosa set a new MotoGP speed record in first free practice for the Italian MotoGP at Mugello on Friday 29 May 2009 of 349.3km/h or 217.04mph. On an 800cc bike!

And they said going to 800cc would slow the bikes down
