Sounds like a cool job.

As for me I am still in college. Right now my goal would be a Special Agent with the FBI,DEA,ICE,Secret Service maybe US Marshall Service. But I still have two more years of undergrad and I am thinking of doing Law School too. Other jobs I can think of are working for a DA office than running for public office, maybe just working for a private law firm. Always wanted to be a commercial pilot but the pay and benefits are just horrible in the US but its always a possibility who knows.
I guess I should just focus on getting through school and making as many contacts as I can first.

It is my dream job. Since I knew what a plane was, I wanted to fly them. I worked hard and long for it and then I made it. And now I am approaching 4000 hours.
And I would do that job again, if I had to chose. I don't want another job.

I'm a soldier, but I wish the aviation industry would pick up so I can become a pilot, for Delta, of course, and stay in the National Guard.

I have to many dreams jobs but for a while it was pilot now special agent. There are a few special agent/pilot jobs out there I would love to get. But for now its all about school and contacts.
Wilco: I remember when you first got a job flying 737NG's for hapag lloyd right? But yea becoming a airline pilot is no easy task thats for sure! 4,000 hours FO in MD-11 sounds great! How many more years do you think till you get the left seat? I am guessing your still a FO right?

Yeah, i started on 737NG. 4,000 is total. MD11F is about 1300 now. Due to the crisis the left seat just got a little further away, so I guess another 4-6 years. I hope for the 744 next year Big grin

I'm starting at Delta Air Lines' West European Call Centre at the end of July on the German telephone line. I hope it's an inroad to something in the company not so phone-related!

If that fails, I'm going to give up and do what I've always wanted to do - since I gave up on the flying dream, anyhow - become a grizzled old bluesman like Howlin' Wolf.

I spend my days surrounded by 8-10 female nurses whilst listening to the sounds of women in labor. After the delivery I get to register the birth data into the system and go back to listening to the females gossip

Most of the time I am the only male in the entire department and have to try to not listen to the things the nurses love to discuss (their waxing issues... "it's all red and bumpy"). A few times a day I have to remind them that I am there and suddenly their topic changes

I still miss the ER however my MI (well my cardiologist) insisted upon a bit less stressful area and Labor and Delivery was by far the best option.

I am studying to be an Environmental Scientist. Love this area of work very much, and I am currently doing and investigation that would last about 2 months, and I have realized that i was born to do this. Love the laboratory. I am not sure how much money I will make doing this stuff, but hey, something's gotta give..

Growing up, I had 3 dream jobs, and through luck, hard work, and more than a little seat, I've managed to earn a living at all 3 of them, although not all at the same time.
1/ I've always been fascinated my boats and ships, and I spent a few years in the Canadian navy back in the late 70's, based on the west coast.

2/ Was hooked on the drums for as long as I can remember, and for a few years, I was a member of a touring bar band (country, country rock and 50's rock)

3/ Mom has told me that for as long as she can remember, I always wanted to drive, and apparently, the only car seat that I didn't cry in was one with a steering wheel. And as soon as I learned what a truck was, she said I was hooked. And here I am today, licensed to drive trucks that are only legal in 17 US states, and 6 Canadian provinces (3 of them on a probationary basis) I haul turnpike doubles (two 53 foot (16 meter) trailers, with a maximum overall length of 135 feet (41 meters), and a gross vehicle weight of 137,500 lbs (62,500 kgs).

I'm an extortionist.
Started my own LLC four years ago after the realization is sucks to work for anybody but myself. Not big---just three other atty's and eight clerks/staff (but adding two more vultures later this summer).

So far, better than I could have imagined--but ridiculous hours and travel.

Always what I wanted to do.

Had the dream job. Senior Aviation Photographer for a major Aircraft Manufacturer. Staff position getting to shoot planes all day. However 9/11 ended all that.

Now work as an Operational Supervisor for a major Canadian company. Not ideal, but sure pays the bills and I actually enjoy what I do but in a different way from photography. More chance to use my business and people skills.

Right now im a student starting my 3rd year at college. I work at a hotel doing the front desk and a restaurant bussing tables. Hardly my dream job.

My dream job would be to live in the center of a bustling city, working as a transportation planner (esp railroads) or as a prop airliner pilot. Or go into the military for a couple years (seeing if I can get myself into shape).

Neither two years away from a four year degree than Law School will apply to many agencies my last year of law school if I don't get in than become a Prosecutor and apply again for a Special Agent spot, I would also try to get a special agent at a state law enforcement agency pay is not good but I would not mind the experience for 2-3 years. Now if law school does not work out I think I will just go to a local or state agency first but I am planning on law school working out

I'm an Aircraft mechanic in the military, I love my job, it has taken me a lot of places that I would have probably never gone. There is no better feeling then fixing the plane and watching it take off knowing you made the difference, I plan on doing it as long as it's fun.

Either as a computer repair guy (someone who repairs computers for home users, as well as helps them install stuff if they cannot themselves) or perhaps following into my father's footsteps and take up his old job as train driver at the Hamburger Hochbahn. I just want something that will help me earn good money, and leaves enough for saving for something (e.g. a vacation visiting my family in Italy, season ticket for the FC St. Pauli, a nice flat, cable and a Sky Deutschland-Subscription, a car, etc.).

I'm an after hours travel agent. I think planning travel has always been in my blood. Even as a kid i was reading the OAGs and planning round the world "torture trips" for my father just to get his reaction to them. I've spent my entire travel career in after hours with the exception of an 18 month stint as a support specialist for a cruise agency (a job that bored me to tears, as i could complete my duties in about four hours,on average, leaving me the rest of the day to pretty much sit around and do nothing.) and three months doing front line corporate travel (doing the 9-5 thing was just not the right fit for me), before i went back to after hours.

What i like about my job is the notion that no two calls are ever alike, one moment i'm planning a routine round trip from Pit-Cle, the next moment i'm looking for options to fly a missionary who's missed his flight from Philadelphia to Ouagadougou. All in all, the job can be very challenging at times.
Yes, I'd like to see airbus go under so Boeing can have their customers!

I work in the airlines business now for more than 7 years and I have no plan currently to change that. Other then that I am a Basketball Coach earning a little extra while coaching an U-14 team.

The dream of course is to turn pro as a coach but it is almost impossible here where I live.  Smile

I'm an IT Manager which is OK but I'm not really passionate about it - just "work to live" really.

I would love to be a flight dispatcher but I just couldn't handle the pay cut  Sad Maybe if I have more savings in the future.

I think I came to the conclusion early on that I didn't like people telling me what to do. Also, I like to keep odd hours (insomniac and night owl), so a 9-5 would hardly be for me. Wake up at 6am only to get ready and commute? Hell no. My most brilliant moments come between 2 and 3am.

Then I was in undergrad but it seemed like a complete waste of time so I dropped out and started my first company dealing with distressed property and assigning of contracts and interest. It didn't come out of nowhere, this was something I had researched for 18 months or so out of my own interest. I shut that down when the market began to turn and my investment horizon was very short-term anyway (like 14-30 days), so I didn't get caught upside down like a lot of people holding overpriced real estate did. I also decided to go to art school and get a degree in something that interested me rather than being told what to learn. Started another investment vehicle a while ago dealing with trading in alternative markets...I don't like equities, I think they're all BS. I like it because sometimes I get lazy/tired/worn out/sick of being in the same place and don't feel like working for a month, I can just live off cash and/or travel. However when I do work it's like 18 hrs/day 6 days/week.

Right now, I am a resident assistant at an assisted living community, and most of the time:
 vomit   vomit   vomit

It can be a real pain in the ass most of the time, and some of my coworkers are next to impossible to work with... As a male R.A., many of the women do not want a man to help them get dressed, use the bathroom, get showered, etc... and you have to respect that. I tried explaining that to a co-worker last week and it exploded into a huge verbal argument. I want out, but I need an exit strategy (i.e. a better job!).

I am trying to find a job in regional planning or GIS (desperately, might I add), and I already have my resume sent out to 4 different potential employers in the Philly area. I am currently finishing my masters degree. I have one more semester of classes, and then I write my thesis. If I can't find anything by this time next year, then I am going to leave the region, and mabye even the country...

Ontario has the Provincial police.

When I took a motorcycle trip through Ontario, I kept wondering what "O.P.P." stood for. Couldn't get the song out of my head for over 200 miles.

Well I am not a 9-5 person either but when it comes time to settle down with a family it would not be bad. I am never planning on having a 9-5 job hopefully but I would not want to be working 9pm-6am every night.

So, were you down with OPP?  Wink

I am a funeral directors apprentice (One year to go!) Then I will hopefully be licensed in the state of Massachusetts. I like my job, and while I cant have my dream job of "Liz Hurley's bikini top" this pays the bills  biggrin

I'm finally a professional grandfather and it is the best job I've ever had.

After the Navy I studied Accounting and worked in retailing at the same time. Decided I liked retailing more than Accounting so I stayed in the field in Sales, Buying, Merchandise Planning and Systems Development. Loved all equally well, but the best part came when I worked for myself selling systems and services to retailers. The best part was when I got New Zealand and Australia as a territory. Almost hit 3 million miles with oneworld. What more can a guy ask for than a great family, a job that requires a lot of travel and no boss - except, or course, for the wife.

Two bouts of cancer and I'm forced into retirement, which leaves me being a grandfather and building up enough FF miles for a trip with the wife to the UK (again) and then with the grandkids to Disney World. What could be better?

Unemployed, sadly. I pay my bills through freelance writing, but just barely. My dream job would be on staff at a paper (or website) that pays me to do long, involved, Langewieshe-type stuff in strange and interesting places. Anybody on this board hiring writers by chance?

I might be re-entering the security field soon. It will pay the bills and get me flying again, so I'll be thankful for it.

This is the big problem the pilots have:
The job is considered to be so sexy and glamorous that there are many newbies willing even to pay for the opportunity to sit in the right seat (I don´t mean paying for flying school or type rating, I actually mean to pay to fly for their first employer during the first year, like at FR or to fly for free). This obviously drives conditions down (there are lots of threads about this on pilot´s forums), since the dream of any boss is an employee who doesn´t only work for free, but actually pays for the privilege to work.
No AME /A&P would even think of working for free, he would rather go out of the industry. In our case (in Europe at least, the US are a different ballgame), this, together with the airlines refusing to train new AMEs, instead having relied for the last 40 years on getting at least partially trained staff who learned the basics while serving as conscripts in the military (only thaat more an more countries are changing from conscript militaries to professional ones), lead to a shortage of licenced AMEs in Europe, which is good for us. Currently a typical salary for an EASA Part 66 B1 engineer is somewhere between the salaries of a regular (paid) F/O and a captain.
