You Walk Into A Coffee Shop...

Sun Jul 05, 2009 4:09 pm

Ouch.

What do you order? I’d order a medium or large cappuccino, depending on whether I’m alone with a magazine or book, in which case I stay for up to an hour, or whether my wife is joining me, when we chat and leave more quickly.

A small latte with three shots of espresso.

In the mornings:
I enjoy a doppio con panna (double espresso with whipped cream) topped full with whipped cream and about 3 packets of raw sugar. I let it sit for a while and then I carefully stir the cream and sugar so that it would mix with the espresso. It's a great pick-me-up

During the summer:
Anything iced, usually an iced latte or an iced chai tea latter. At this one Greek coffeehouse, I go for the frappe.

During the winter:
At Starbucks, their "London Fog" which is Earl Grey tea with milk.

I'm usually at a coffeehouse studying or working on a project and can't do it either at home or in the lab.

Strong tea with milk if I'm on the go. If I'm staying, it'll either be a pot of tea or a small hot chocolate with whipped cream.

I'm not a coffee drinker!

Cappuccino! Espresso!

By the way, if you're in Italy and ordering more than one cappuccino - before 10am please - order cappuccini.

If you're in Italy, you should say cappuccini. You can get away with cappuccinos in the UK or Ireland or the US, but it'd be silly in Italy.

My local Costa, which I visit 5-to-6-times-weekly normally around 8am, charges £2.30 for a medio cappuccino or £2.50 for a massimo. Very good-size portions. Those prices are I believe universial in Costa outlets in Britain, including at airports.

I normally order a large latte with 3 extra shots as I like it strong. If I'm gonna have a coffee, I want to taste it, as most places don't seem to make coffee with a taste of it. I go to Esquire. They do make quite good coffee which you can actually taste.

Aha, you got used to Spanish coffee when you were there. Come to Holland then  Smile We too have de-lic-ious coffee.

Mind you, some 'coffee shops' here sell substances with exotic names, such as Desert Haze, Shiva Gold and Original Highway Delight. All are intoxicating and none have anything to do with coffee.

Spanish coffee is fantastic, even the airport coffee was great. The next time I'm in Holland, I'll definitely grab a Dutch coffee.

Anyway that was a special event, I would normally take espresso or just a regular coffee.

Do you really? I usually walk into a coffee shop with the actual intention of purchasing a coffee product.

For me, it depends on the mood i'm in, sometimes just a regular brewed coffee or sometimes a latte. If I'm in a tea mood, London Fog is served by a few coffee shops around here, damn good stuff lol. Earl grey tea, steamed milk and vanilla ... yum yum!

When I quit smoking, I gave up Tim Hortons.
It was too hard to have one without the other.

When I do order coffee, it's usually an americano with a shot of Bailey's.

From what I understand, the drink and name came from a local coffee shop here in town (Bean 2 Cup) and had the exclusive rights for the name. Starbucks had the same drink but called it the Steamed Earl Grey Mistou or something like that. But Starbucks managed to buy the name off the other coffee shop sometime over the last few months. Or so the rumour goes .... lol

I was that way before I went into the Navy. Had to doctor that stuff up a bit in the '60s - hope things improved since then.

Now it's a brewed coffee or a Cappuccino. I even move to decaf after about 3 pm - must be an issue about getting older.

Splurging for me these days is to go to Starbucks and getting a pound of Vienna. Lasts a lot longer.

I walk in...greet my employees that are working... set my stuff on my desk in the back and head out front... greet whatever regular customers I know... help them out with the line if needed... sometimes pour myself a cup of whatever we have on tap.... sometimes order up an iced green tea or an iced coffee... then return to my desk...and the fun begins...

Sign in and check my email... see what the latest and greatest happenings are... check yesterdays and the week's numbers...compare them with last year and see how we're doing... check on our pastries and see if I need to order more or less of something... check yesterday's labor figures and make sure nothing crazy happened... all this usually happens within 10 minutes of me walking in the door...

then, I'll head out front to work with customers etc for the next 8 hours...

Time to do what I always do weekday mornings: go to my local Costa, a five-minute walk into the centre of town, for a large cappuccino and a good read. I have finished all my magazines off for now, so it will either have to be Straight And Level: Practical Airline Economics (which is probably the best-ever and most helpful book puplished on the airline industry) or The Daily Telegraph.
