I absolutely agree - education and income does not dictate what I think of them. Some of the nicest, wise, generous, and humane people I have ever met have been the poorest of the poor, the richest of the rich, and everything inbetween. This is why I was trying to clarify his "dislike" of what he called "blue-collared people"

I think he is more in the direction of a moral absolutist.

I wouldn't call them scum, but they still annoy the ever-living sh^t out of me: Parrots (people whose opinions are entirely shaped by and come verbatim from whatever talking head on tv/newspaper/radio they watch/read/listen to--whether it be Limbaugh, Krugman, Franken, or Robertson. I grew up in the conservative south, and now live in the liberal northeast, and I can assure you that it is bad on both sides of the political spectrum. Think for yourself people!), Said Talking Heads who inherently claim some sort of authority/credentials when they actually don't have any (Limbaugh) or falsely use their credentials as a foundation for why people should believe their opinion, even if the subject that they are talking about has no connection to their achieved credentials (Paul Krugman--who has a phD in economics, and has won the nobel prize for his work on a theory of international trade, and thinks that this makes him an authority on everything, including global warming), bible bangers/evangelical christians (especially those who think natural disasters represent god's judgement on the U.S.), homeless people who insult you for not giving them change, people who abuse welfare, people who glorify being uneducated or promote anti-intellectualism, stars of MTV's my super sweet 16, Scientologists, smokers who somehow manage to puff right in your face, lobbyists, most of the politicians in DC.

Yes, he died, like all of us will some day (granted not in the same fashion, but I digress), get over it.

Your right blue collar people work hard to earn their 12.50 an hour. Everyone watches Tv a little but unless your watching a sports game then you can go online to watch the show. Tv has just turned into a long running commercial with 10 minutes of show and 20 of advert witch is really irritating. People who feel they need to know whats going on in Hollywood they need to blow it out their ass and get a life!

The vast majority of the blue collars I know are bible thumpers but that's just observation and I don't know a lot of BC workers

You missed my point. I'll give you an example of Armchair professionals.....e.g. people who think they can run the country better, make better decisions for a company, which routes an airline should fly etc. - all from behind a computer screen and without any actual knowledge of the matter involved.

For example, if someone is talking about repairing an aircraft or car....Armchair Mechanic will chime in and say that it is not the right way to fix it blah blah blah...even though they know jack sh*t about repairing either of them.

Legally, I shouldn't be allowed to read his columns. After reading them I either want to kill myself (cause they are so freaking depressing and chicken little "the sky is falling" esque) or I want to kill him for being such a pompous a^^hole. What makes matters worse is that I live in Manhattan, where the guy is practically revered as a demigod in some of the social circles that I hang out in.

I love how on one of his recent columns, where he castigated senators for expressing their opinions on global warming, that some university scientists whose job it actually is to research global warming wrote letters saying that his column was complete bunk. Of course, the guy doesn't apologize or admit to making a mistake.

Can't stand Roger Cohen (who I've started calling Teheran Tommy, since he was the only journalist that somehow was able to remain in Iran during the recent protests) or Bob Herbert as well.
Nick Kristof actually has some merit to his columns, and is less biased, but his columns are completely unoriginal and follow a pretty basic format. Anybody with any writing experience could do his job.
