PS3, Xbox360 Or Wii?

Fri Aug 07, 2009 10:06 pm

I know there's been a few of these discussions in non-av before but times have changed since then and more titles have been released to the consoles.

I read through an old thread about the subject and it seemed like there were more votes for the Xbox360.

My personal preference is for PS3 as it features a Blu-Ray and the HD-DVD is long gone.
Plus more game titles have now been released for the PS3 and the chat world has been released also, which is quite cool. Wireless is built in, and as an extra bonus I think the PS3 is better looking.

While the Xbox is cheaper at the moment you buy it, you will have to pay extra for things such as:

- Online Gaming subscription
- Wifi device
- Battery rechargers for the controllers
- Extra cooling for the 360

That's why I chose the PS3. The wii is quite fun but the graphics are just not good enough for me...

What's your take on this? Are people still leaning towards the Xbox360?

I've never been one for console gaming...so I've always gone PC. However, the g/f wanted a Wii...so we ended up getting one. I like it because...well...it's just different. She hasn't broke my TV yet...so that's always a plus.

Xbox 360 for sure. Xbox Live is one of the best, if not the best, multiplayer internet system out there. I just don't see how Nintendo or Sony can match that. Also, the Xbox 360 has a larger game selection by far. The only reason I would buy a PS3 is for F1 Championship Edition, but Codemasters (The makers of the racing game, Grid) is coming out with an F1 game for the Xbox 360 in 2010, so that's no factor anymore.

So I would definitely say Xbox 360 for the win.

Just my  twocents .

Well, here goes my second vote for 360. My brother owns a XBOX 360 and sometimes I use to spend my time with and it's really awesome. As FX772 said, Xbox Live rocks.  Smile
PS3 is doing bad at this moment and on the other hand Wii doesn't have great games to play with.

Just my opinion.  Smile

Is the Xbox noisy or is that a myth?

The only downside for me is that I would really have liked to play halo, but I might get it for pc in that case

We have a family Wii and frankly we love it, but I wouldn't buy one if it was for personal use. There just aren't games of the calibre of the halo's/GTA/Metal Gears in terms of visual performance and no real 'extras' like dvd playback (ignoring third party mods).

I borrowed a friends PS3 whilst he went on holiday and I have to say was not overly impressed. Whilst it is a 2 in 1 console with the blu-ray playback, the games didn't grab me although the visuals were superb.

If it was my money I would go for the Xbox. Its well priced and games are plentiful and of good quality. I was also impressed by its on-line service.

I'd go with an Xbox 360 but the combination of noisy fans in the machine plus the infamous "ring of death" problem is a major turn-off for that console.  Sad

I've played on literally dozens of Xbox 360's and only seen one "Red Ring Of Death". It's not a common occurrence. If you take care of the console, you'll never see it.

My grandmother actually has a wii too and it is really fun, but I completely agree with that! I want games like GTA so the wii is not good enough.

For me nothing beats the xbox 360, xbox live is tonnes of fun, yeah it costs £40 a year but worth every penny. The reliability issues were probably blown out of proportion, my original 2006 model is still working, though i have recently bought the newer 60gb pro version. It's quieter and has a new chipset. Add to that the killer titles like Halo 3, Gears of War, Bioshock and Left 4 Dead (almost addicted to L4D at the moment!) you can't go wrong. Price-wise it's a no-brainer, at £160 for a 60gb model the 360 is cheaper than the Wii, never mind the PS3!

Xbox360, all the way. My wife wanted a Wii so we bought that for her (it's fun, in a 'Fisher Price people playing games' sort of way) but for sheer enjoyment, graphics, price point and scalability, get the 360.

Google "Xbox360 mods" and you'll see what I mean.

I just tried that as well with my PSP. Seems it is like remote desktop. You can actually view all the pics, vids, and listen to all the music on your PS3 from anywhere in the world through your PSP just using an internet connection.

But it doesn't work with any games, right?
