You really should! It is really less scary than everybody around me made it seem. Also, with today's technology, it really is not that intense on the body at all. The moment when the chute opens, you hardly feel it at all. The landing is as soft as in a hang glider.
Quoting MadameConcorde (Reply 3): Is it scary when you are looking down? Did you look down at all before jumping? |
Yes I did, being a glider pilot I'm used to the view downwards. I actually have fear of heights, but this moment was nothing like standing on a tall structure. They say fear of heights is actually fear of edges. On the Eiffel Tower for example, I was scared to death. And I wasn't even on the top floor.
It was a rather warm day today, about 14°C. Not typical for this season.
Quoting MadameConcorde (Reply 3): Is there any time to think... at all... when you are standing out there? |
I tried to avoid thinking a lot, we practiced the procedure several times on the ground and I just did one thing after the other, not thinking what I could do to get back inside the plane for example. When I was standing out there, I kind of tried to pretend I was on the ground practicing, and before I could really think about it I was off, and soon after, the chute was out and everything was ok.
We jumped from 1200 GND (about 1460 MSL), but MSL is really irrelevant when jumping
